Am I getting paid enough?

I have been working at the same restaurant for 6 years, have moved up from server to Event Coordinator and server manager. I am currently getting paid only $12 an hour and have been told numerous times that I do a great job and have everything always in order. I am wondering what the average pay is for someone doing my job and what I should ask for. I am currently in college and will be finished next spring. I am 27 years old, about to buy a house and start a family. I love my job but this is just not enough.

The salary remuneration is entirely based on the company. However, according to your position in the company, your salary is supposed to be adjusted as you move up. Therefore, it would be best if you your boss and discussed about your payment.

"server manager" ... but ARE you in a management position?
EG; do you oversee other employees, responsible for scheduling/hiring/firing, etc?

If so ... you should be getting a salary. More money - but that also means you aren't eligible for overtime, as an "exempt" employee.

If they aren't willing to give you what you think you deserve ... you have 2 choices:

1 - Suck it up, and keep taking what they pay.
2 - Give your notice, and start looking for a job elsewhere.

Do some research on what people in similar positions in your area are paid. Take that information with you into a meeting with your boss and ask for a raise. But be prepared; if you don't get a raise, what will you do? If you say you'll quit otherwise, you have to be ready to give notice and walk away.

Make your case to your employer. Don't explain about the house and family. This has to be about why you are worth more money to them.

Very good points about what doesn't matter and what does to the employer.
