That's such a good question that it makes my head hurt. I feel mercy is one step passed compassion. Compassion and mercy live together, but mercy takes it one step further. An example is...compassion is feeling sorry for someone in extreme unforgiving forever pain and suffering. Mercy is allowing them freedom from that life by allowing death.
Compassion is about reaching out a helping hand to someone without considering whether or not they deserve it. Mercy is about reaching out a helping hand knowing they don't. It's what we do on ASK.com :)
