Can my parents read my text messages?

This is an urgent question. My best friend, who I can talk to about anything, is going through an incredibly rough time and needs me by her side. However, after a fight with my father, he threatened to set up a way to read my texts each time they are sent, and read the replies. I find this to be a disgusting invasion of my privacy, along with making it impossible to help my friend without everything we say being broadcasted to my family. I have an iPhone 4, AT&T. Is it possible for him to do this, and if so, how can I tell? And is there a way for me to quietly reverse this? Please, I'm desperate. She needs me and I can't be there for her until I'm sure my father won't be able to spy on our conversations.

If you have your own account that you're paying for, no.

Yes, he can! I don't know about the iPhone but, I know he can access your texts through AT&T's website or he can have AT&T send them to him! My cell provider offered me this option but, I trust my boys!
He's your Dad, he's entitled to know what you're up to! What's the big deal if you're trying to help a friend?
What's the big secret?
Don't do anything by text, email or on the web that you don't want people to see!!

Thank you for your help, I appreciate it. He may be my father, but this is an invasion of my privacy. The things we are talking about are deeply personal. She chose to open up to me, and me alone. I will not betray that trust in any way, even one as indirect as my father accessing our conversation. I'm afraid some things are meant to stay private. Besides that, texting is the only way we can communicate at the moment. Normally we would use Skype, but she is at her dad's house and he refuses to get wifi. Because of that, we have no other options. Still, thank you for your time spent in helping me.

On the iPhone they can set it up to where they can read everything you send. My dad did this to my mom, my sister, and me. I don't think you can reverse it unless you go to the AT&T website and make it to where your dad can't look at the messages you send and receive. Hope this helps you. And like vbmg152 said, you can always make a personal chat room for you two or email each other. I know a great chat website where you can talk to each other and nobody else can see it. If you want the website address just let me know.

Thank you for the help. We would normally use Skype, but she's at her dad's house, and he doesn't have wifi. Otherwise this wouldn't be such an issue. Thanks anyways.

There is not possible, how ever if you are a minor and he pays your phone and you live under his roof he can see what you text and reply thats what parents are for you have to understand there piont of view wich i know you don't.
Only when you become a parent and only then you will understand.

Thank you for your time. However, this isn't a matter of his wanting to protect me. This is his way of lashing out at me and isolating me from my friend, as he does not like her. I'm afraid this isn't a case of not understanding his point of view, but of him punishing me for refusing to accept the views he forces on me. Still, thank you for your time and assistance.

I depends on if they have a thing for it. Like my mother has this websit were it is connected to my phones store and sends most of my messages to her. So it depends.

I've asked that same question to my AT&T reps many times and they assure me that there is no way to actually read someone's texts once they're deleted. They can't make copies or anything to send to other accounts but you can view usage details and see all the numbers called or texted and received calls/texts with times and dates. But there are a few programs out there that you have to pay a subscription to that allow a person to install this program on laptops, tablets, pcs and smart phones and what happens is the program captures every key you click, every text sent and received, every website visited, every call etc and then the administrator (mom or dad) can log into a site and view all your activity.
