Why do I get hot and sweaty when I am not doing anything?

When I am at school, I sometimes start sweating and get really hot. Like when I am sitting in a class just listening to my teachers. It's embarrassing, and I don't know what to do. I am a female teenage athlete. I'm fine with sweating while I work out but I don't care to do it when nothing is happening. What can I do to stop this?

Anything anyone else here has said could be the cause.

I think it could also be lack of water, if you don't drink it much.

Hormones and thyroid irregularities could be two culprits, among a bunch of other benign possibilities. Tell a physician and simple blood tests might help to learn more.
