Salt can help whiten your teeth *BUT* it is every abrasive and will also remove the enamel from them. Once the enamel is scratched or worn down stains will not only happen faster but are harder to remove AND it will cause your teeth to rot faster as it is the enamel that helps protect them from cavities

does baking soda hurt your enamel?
Report as
no, baking soda uses a different method to whiten and is not as abrasive as salt, in fact most whitening toothpastes use baking soda in their formula It works better and faster if you use a *little* hydrogen peroxide with the baking soda on your tooth brush (don't swallow it hydrogen peroxide won't really hurt you in small amounts but if you swallow enough it will foam in your stomach and make you throw up)

Do you just rub the peroxide on and then wash your mouth out?
Report as
Take a cotton swab and just put a little bit on it then rub it on your teeth then brush them

I don't think so but I've heard a hint of salt and water can relieve a tooth ache

Yes but peroxide and small ants of lemon juice is better. Neither are good to your enamel though
