Does anyone think the boston marathon bombing could be an ominous foreshadowing of a new age of war?

You gotta think, we've had multiple terror attacks in the last 15 years. Gun violence and war seems to be increasing. We see on the news everyday that there are bigger threats being made by north Korea, there missile systems are beginning to become more advanced. Crazy events with civil war raging all over africa and the middle east. Anyone else thing a great war is in the making?

Nope. The countries that are making threats are countries pretty much without allies also making threats; they would be extremely foolish to start an actual war. Even though the current leader of North Korea seems to be a nutcase, I think it is actually the military in control there; they let him strut around and take the blame because he lets them run things from the background. The military of a tiny country is not going to declare war on a big country. There will continue to be "brush fire" conflicts where and there, but not a "world war" sort of thing.

Probabily, but we are prepared like all the other countries, and most of the shootings are from kids who do drugs or are just mentally crazy. But yes. I could defidently believe that we might go to war. We will hav to make military drafts again. 18-30 years old

It's not quite new; assymetrical warfare is the tactic employed by a nation or entity that is markedly weaker than the power they oppose. NO country is large enough to go against us head to head on a battlefield, as our weaponry is built to provide a marked edge at lower risk to our own troops. To put it another way, our spear is sharp, long, and punishes anyone who steps against it. Our soft underbelly is our open society; our vulnerability is we don't have a restricting or checking society. So, the enemy will avoid our spear (our military), and seek the soft parts of our society. Try as they might, it is vanity; NO terrorist has ever won a victory without an army large enough to secure and hold a city against an opposing force.

Possibly. You have to realize sometimes tragedies like this are isolated events. It's sickening and tragic with what has occurred lately. The shootings in Newtown, Aurora, Arizona, the military base in Texas, Virginia Tech, etc. All are tragic and sad, but most likely not related. Yes there seems to be a rise in violence and terroristic crimes across the globe. However there is 24 hour news media and all of the social media. Events like this are broadcasted everywhere. It possibly makes it seem like it happens much more often now. Then again I believe it is happening more often. Rather than look at this as a sign I look at it as a decline in the morality of society and people in general. There is a lacking of respect and regard for human life and the property of others. Sadly now when an argument breaks out one or both parties wants to pull out a knife or gun and fatally wound the other(s). Instead of fist fighting(which I don't condone) or using words to work things out people resort to violence. It's very sad and frightening.
