How do I get rid of enlarged papillae (taste buds) that are really painful?
A couple dozen or so of my taste buds have been inflamed, sore, burning or downright painful for months now. The level of pain does vary throughout the day / night but I haven't been able to find a pattern. Certain foods do make it hurt a lot more, especially spicy ones. At first I thought "Thrush" or yeast infection because there was a slight whiteness on the back of my tongue (not where it really hurt though). The dentist didn't think it was yeast but prescribed Nystatin mouthwash. It didn't seem to help. I have asked other docs and they didn't know. I am on a lot of meds. Crestor was one of them, but I read that sometimes it can affect the mouth so I stopped taking it (probably need to tell the doc about that). ;) I also read about some dental products like certain toothpastes or mouthwashes causing problems like this. I have tried all the OTC mouth pain remedies, I've used healing mouthwashes. Please help it has been months of pain and it definitely interferes with eating and day to day activities.
