Does the failure of the Senate to pass a gun control bill signal a victory for criminals and terrorists?

With the failure to pass the gun control bill, are we giving criminals and terrorists a license to kill?

Report as

No criminals will get it either way your only punishing law aboding citizens by getting them killed because they cant defend themselves
A female student was walking back to her car one night after classes on a college campus and was attacked and subsequently raped if the college had allowed her to carry a firearm on campus this situation could have been avoided but being a law abiding person she left concealed carry weapon in her car the law affectivly nuetralized the abilitys of the law abidingcitizen while helping the criminal get away with his crimes

Background checks do NOT punish law abiding citizens.
I'll counter your college student with a 5 yr old shot and killed because his father was able to buy a rifle without training so he killed his son while cleaning his gun.
Report as
Well then hes an idiot and how does background checks prevent accidents
I was raised around guns i was running around with a .22 since i was 8 and when you are raised around them you know to respect them and how to treat them if everyone was raised around them you wouldnt have nearly as many accidents
Report as
I didn't say background checks would have made a difference. Background checks had nothing to do with your dead college student so I countered with a dead 5 yr old
Report as
Like i said if more people were bruoght up around guns there would be less accidents
Report as
And if more people had to take training before being allowed to own a gun, there would be less accidents.
We demand more training for you to drive than we do for you to own a gun.
Report as
Heck I've benn shooting guns since I was like 6
Report as
About 100,000 people are shot around the world yearly some die some live. And about 1.3 million people die in car accidents yearly
Report as
Knives kill about 1694
Hands and feat kill about 726
Hammers and clubs kill about 469
Rifles kill about 323
Report as
So with all that training to drive a car it still is the death of far more people than any of the things I just listed
Report as
There are way more cars than guns... Duh
Report as
But that should not be the case, I mean guns are MEANT to kill people. Cars aren't. :P
Report as
Actually there are only 850 cars on the road for every 1000 people and there are more guns in this country than there are people
Report as
Wow that's amazing :P

Not exactly but we are making it easier for them to arm themselves

That's true, we can only hope they enforce the regulations we already have.
Report as
You know who is the most completely against marijuana being legalized? The dealers. Why? Because they'll lose money. Put more restrictions on guns and make the gun dealers happy, and no one will know who owns or not.
Report as
What did not pass the senate due to cowardice just closed SOME loopholes in background checks. It strengthen penalties for straw purchases. Not exactly big time regulations.
Report as
Politicians could pass any of these regulations and "close the loopholes", but if they aren't enforced like current laws and regulations they are pointless. Law enforcement, government and prosecutors must be forced to prosecute people who violate current laws and restrictions.
Report as
Show me which laws aren't being enforced?
Report as
The FBI reported 71,000 cases of falsified information on gun background checks a mere 77 of those were convicted. That's like 1%
Report as
Then we have are beloved VP Biden sayin "we don't have time to enforce existing laws, let's add new ones"
Report as
The FBI reported them, obviously law enforcement is doing its job. Not convicted? Look to your fellow citizens.
Report as
Not convicted, look at our prosecutors
Report as
This is how they operate. They don't enforce existing laws because they don't really care. Then when tragedies happen they use those as shields to advance there anti gun agenda, screaming "we need more" or "stop this now" when they don't even use the stuff they've got. It's sad
Report as
But we don't have time to enforce existing laws, so let's add new ones
Report as
Prosecutors only make the case. Juries and/ or judges convict.
Report as
Only 77 were convicted. I think that's pretty easy to understand
Report as
That would be the jury NOT the prosecutor unless you are trying to make the case that DAs are paid so poorly that we don't have good ones?
Report as
Well the DA and assistant DA in my county just got shot (I live in Kaufman)
Report as
And again only 77 were prosecuted the rest were let go.
Report as
And if only 77 were prosecuted that means only 77 or less could have actually been convicted
Report as
That's a splendid system don't you think?
Report as
Nope , you wrote 77 convicted...
Your DAs were shot by a jp. Bet he was a legal gun owner.
Report as
Who could have thunk it? Another reason I dont trust goverment

No, it's an actual victory for the US citizens.
To put more restrictions just puts more money in criminals pockets. At least buying them allows some ability to know who owns. I'm sure that idea has never crossed their minds. All the restrictions would do is keep track of the honest people. Criminals will still get them no matter what.

No. It's a victory for law abiding citizens. It protects our second amendment as well as protects our right to defend ourselves and our families. Unfortunately we can never stop crime and/or terrorist attacks. Targeting guns is pointless. It attacks the tool used and fails to address the root(s) of the issue(s). If guns killed people they would be prosecuted and put in prison. It takes a person to kill another or others. This country needs to actually prosecute people who have broken gun laws.

What part of background checks hurts law abiding citizens? What part of bigger penalties on straw purchases hurts law abiding citizens?
Report as
It keeps me being able to sell and purchase guns from people I know without the background check hassle. These laws wouldn't prevent the mentally ill or criminals from getting them. When a lunatic like the Sandy Hook shooter broke numerous laws(most of them gun laws) a universal background check or "loophole closing" wouldn't have prevented the tragedy. Many democrats who supported the new regulations admitted what they proposed wouldn't have prevented the tragedy. We have numerous existing laws and regulations. How about the government and prosecutors start enforcing and prosecuting existing laws and punish the ones who violate them. I read and have heard numerous times in New York less than 10% of people who violated firearms regulations were actually prosecuted. Perhaps we first enforce existing laws.
Now look at Chicago, New York, California and Washington D.C., they have strict if not the strictest gun laws already and yet gun/violent crime rates have steadily increased. It's been studied and proven many times states and cities with conceal and carry permits and are gun friendly saw gun and violent crime decrease. When criminals know their potential victims are armed they are more inclined to not bother them. If criminals know their potential victims are unarmed they know they have an easy target and victim.
Report as
It did not keep you from buying and selling to relatives, just non relations... Wow, that would really hurt... Forgive me but I want to know that the person you're selling to isn't a nut job, felon, etc.
as for sandy hook, MOM bought the guns legally so you all can quit trying to make it mean anything.
Will it stop all gun crime? Nope, just like laws against mirder don't stop them and laws against robbery don't stop them. Should we do away with those laws because "they don't work?"
Report as
So your saying more of those laws that don't work will work?
Report as
The train ain't working so they shovel in more coal, but they don't realize the things gonna blow up.
Report as
Sure, all laws DON'T WORK 100% of the time. If it saves one life it's not worth you being out out?
Report as
It won't save lives, Crazy muther f***ers will kill people. All they need to do is flip open inspire magazine and learn how to make a bomb. And the background checks are barely inforced to begin with, how will more of the same do anything?
Report as
You made my point, the mom legally purchased the guns. So a background check would not have stopped it. I understand you want gun violence to decrease and stop as do the majority of us. It's much deeper than the tools used to kill. It's a culture and violence problem we have in this country. When someone gets angry the attack or kill the person(s) they're mad at. Rather than talk or work things out. A universal background check wouldn't have stopped the Aurora or Sandy Hook shootings. A universal background check would do little or nothing. I understand you want action taken, you seem intelligent, therefor take a deep long look at the shootings. Severely mentally ill with no regard for laws and human life. A universal background check can't stop these horrific events from occurring. We need to instill the value and regard for human life, the safety of others and respect for property of others.
Report as
All they have to do is find some more "loop holes" and pass more laws and more laws.....
Report as
I'm sorry you don't see what is truly happening. If these regulations, laws and any band wanted we're such a necessity why were they not banned before the shootings and when the democrats had full control of the House and Senate. The President, Vice President and other leftists waited until they had a tragedy that took an emotional toll on all of us. They sickly and disgustedly used victims and their families to attempt to push their anti-gun, gun grabbing agenda. It's quite clear what's happening. Our President was more furious over his new regulations beings blocked than he was over the recent bombings and the killing of four Americans in Benghazi.
Report as
Yep it's sad :(
Report as
You are exactly right

Well I'm happy with our senate. As for that if I wanted to I could drive into Dallas and illegally buy a gun from some hoodie in the ghetto. And it's not a win for the Illegal gun dealers I'd assume that hurts there business. But still its nice to know the senate ain't a bunch of commie morons.

No. Passing a gun control bill will be a victory for criminals. Not passing one is a victory for the good guys.

No. Criminals are on record so they won't be able to get a gun anyway. They don't walk into Walmart or Dick's to buy a gun, and they will find ways to get one if they are banned.
