What are disadvantages of being a vegetarian ?

Like it or not, meat has the most complete stored-energy of any food - so by being vegetarian you need to be sure to replace the vitamins & minerals you'll be missing.

It's not healthy. Humans need to eat meat. We don't need to have all the types of meats that we have now but we do need meat. This is also why vegetarians have to suffer with buying substitutes that are much more unhealthier, because they're not getting the right nutrients that they need. I never understood vegetarianism. I mean, if it's okay for other animals to eat animals, then why not us? I mean, we are animals after all anyway.

It could be a health issue if you don't balance your diet with necessary minerals, vitamins and other necessary foods for good body maintenance. Check with your doctor for a good balance veggie diet..You might need to take a supplement.

Yeahh :) I'm so glad you're getting spoiled. You deserve it. Especially after all the weather and odd series of events that happened these past months. It's GREAT to see you again. How's your health? Do you need some protein smoothies? hahaha I've got a great receipe :) Calcium and a spa is what this wizard prescribes for you! Oh, and a gentle touch of family and friends too :) Really though, how is your health? :)

You were missed! Happy! Happy!

Hi. I've been in controversy with many about this topic. I'll keep it short though :) First, if you look at our teeth, we are not built to "rip and tear." Our teeth are built to grind. With the exception of our K9 teeth, we have teeth just like a cow or a horse. Flat. Dogs have rip and tear, (and well they should) for meat. So, the dilemma is where do we get our protein? This is one of the many answers to your question. . Soy beans. and whey is a great protein supplement. I'm trying to keep it short: I hope this helped and have a great day.

HEY GIRL!!!! I came across your name on one of my old questions today & realize I never see your name anymore. I think they've changed my questions. I hardly see my buddy's names anymore. Then I realized how much I miss you..miss talking to you just in general. We have so much in common with our love for animals and such. I'll have to say I think I liked your other pic better, though. It showed how cute you were. I'd love to hear from you and hear how you're doing. Hugs to you!

Aside from needing to pay closer attention to diet and nutrition (which I think is a pro), you may find people do not understand your choice. As a vegetarian, I have found there is a lot of misconception on proper diet. You can live healthfully as a vegetarian and even as a vegan if it is done right. Again, this might be a pro though as you can educate people on where their food comes from as well as how, if done right, being a vegetarian can be a healthy choice. The problems lie when someone becomes a vegetarian and simply stops eating meat rather than trying to find good sources for those nutrients they have removed. If this is a choice you are looking to make, educate yourself on nutrition. :)

Best of luck!

Being a nutritionist is a field of study I've always been interested in. Not majoring in it, but learning about it has been beneficial to my chosen enviornment and the people surrounding me. I am not a vegetarian; but, lean heavily in that direction. I don't think I could become a vegan... only because my husband and I LOVE ice cream. Sad addiction, but true! :)

I agree a million +1 percent with your suggestion on this topic. Will you write my paper in my next chosen nutrition class?!;0 ;)! Just playin!

Speaking of the dog family, we do have the coyotes here too. Unfortunately, gophers and moles don't seem to be on their menu. Bunnies are a delicacy on all predators dinner plate. We used to have more, but they aren't doing "that bunny thing," as much as they used too. Even the hawks don't come around as often.
Thank you for the nice gesture. I'd send them your way if I could catch the little burrowing critter. Amazing they can do such damage, so innocently. Looking for earthworms. I really don't think they do it intentionally. Maybe I'll have Don build some hanging planters against the house. Ugh, then termites. Oh well, at least we both understand it's the way of nature. We try to co-exisist respecting all needs of each other. The way of nature, even if it isn't directly going our way, is the beauty of this planet. Take Care and thanks for the great suggestion and all the other places we have crossed paths. I'm sure more of those to come! :) Happy Happy and Pats too! :) (still looking:))

As I get older, nutrition has become very interesting and important to me. Food is so important and my family and I are striving to eat only the healthiest foods. I admit though, ice cream is delicious and we do occasionally give into some of the not-so-great foods out there. Sure I charge 1 million dollars per page for papers. :P

We used to have two adorable bunnies that hung out behind our house. I have not seen them in weeks. I fear the foxes have found a feast or maybe a hawk. Something has scared them away or took them away. :( It is awesome seeing a fox, but they could have shopped elsewhere in the neighborhood for food.

Are you looking for a male or female pup?
Report as
Beautiful! Your price per page will be of no consequence. I'll get on the horn right now and have my accountant draw up the papers. You do know, of course, your driver can take the elevator up to my penthouse in downtown L.A.? ;) He will have to leave your limo downstairs. The service elevator only holds vehicles the size of Formula 1 cars. After the race, We're just a little crowded on space. :) Big Smiles and Giggles. :) :)

We are looking for female pups. I have a tendency to like girl dogs and boy cats. Both of which are fixed, or rather, happy to live their lives STD free. :) :) and not cause over population! :) Hahaha! Do you have a suggestion?
Report as
LOL oh my how do you manage with such a small space in your penthouse and elevator? I am glad the price is to your liking. :P

We have a male cat and two female dogs. We did have a male shep, the guy in my picture, but he died a couple years ago. I never really thought about having a male dog, but he was wonderful. Such a great dog and I am not just saying that because he was mine. Everyone that met him, really enjoyed getting to know him. I think whatever way you go, you will know when you meet him or her.

Being a vegetarian for the past.... eh... 30-something years, I'd say the biggest disadvantage I've found is that it's tough to get enough protein in your diet.
Plus, when going out to restaurants, there isn't much on the menu that I can eat, unless it's an Italian restaurant, then... I can eat soooo much pasta in one meal. It's really quite amazing (& kind of disgusting!), I don't know where it all goes! 8)

You're basically eating less protein for a vegetarian and you're missing out on a lot of food tasting experiences. Basically, protein is what makes up the building blocks of a human's body. You need protein in your diet. Lastly, you can't survive off of having soya beans and eggs to have protein.

your body was created to create its own complete protein from raw green leaf vegetables and whole grains. as well fruit should never be heated unless its been cool temp. dried. root vegetables must be cooked. if you dont have an illness going longer than 6 months without meat is not healthy.

I'ts perfectly OK Being a vegetarian. It's very healthy compared to america's average eating habits. Meat is also very useful and provides your body with many minerals required to stay energetic. But if you were going to limit your meat, My suggestion would be stay away from red meat as much as possible. And stay away from corn. I think you would all be surprised on how extremely bad corn is for you and what people do to it. Hope this helps

As other people have mentioned, you might need to make up protein that you would otherwise have had from eating meat. Other nutrients you might need to focus on are iron, calcium, zinc and vitamin B12 !!! http://www.gbhealthwatch.com/vegetariandiet.php
