Should I call the job i applied for? Or is that desperate?

I really need a job. I'm 16 and i have to make my car payments. I need gas money also. I applied to multiple jobs and none have contacted me. I'm quite nervous because i have deadlines to meet. Any advice? Should i call and ask if they looked at my application? Should i call and find out if i should set up a meeting with the manager? What should I do?

Yes, Try and call when business opens so you dont disrupt the person hiring. Dont be pushy, keep it short and sweet. Be friendly but smart and professional. Try mentioning, I want to keep myself fresh in your mind.
Who would you hire? the person who just drops off an application? Or, the person who follows up and proves they want the job.

calling the places you put in apps at shows that you are interested. Call and ask the manager if you can set up an interview. Good luck!

This shows that you are not only interested but a motivated worker. Very good ethic! Try calling and say that you placed an application last ______ and are inquiring about the status of it. Also ask if you can set up an interview. Try not to call during a busy time (example dinner time at a restaurant)

16, does not sound as if you can afford a car.
