Why is my home wireless network so slow?

My wireless connection in my home is fairly slow. I have comcast blast internet (up to 30MBPS), Im using a motorola surfboard modem, which is fed into a Linksys WRTU54G-TM router that my T-Mobile at home service runs through. If I run my lap top hooked up to the router through an ethernet cable, my D/L speeds are roughly 40mbps. Through the wireless connection, within 2 feet of the unit, its around 17mbps. I can't help but think my tmobile router is the concern. The reason for all this, is that my directv says it cannot watch shows in real time on demand because my internet connection is too slow. (wireless)

Any thoughts? I've been contemplating buying an additional wireless router.. but I'm really honestly kind of dumb about this sort of thing. Any help is appreciated.

Try looking into Gaming-Certified routers, that are made specifically for gaming.
You may not be a gamer, but this is the best way to boost a few devices.
Just... try not to load too many devices on it... Or your internet speed will plummet...

Better talk to your internet provider.

Your router may be the one making your internet connection slow. The best thing to do is to either try using another internet service provider to compare, or visit your current internet providers for assistance and more inquiries on this.
