A home I purchased has additions without permits that were built many years ago and many owners prior. The city is now after me to fix.HELP?

Can I fight City hall on this either grandfathering or making note that the county has had records of the additions and has been collecting the increased taxes for many years. I don't think they should have it both ways. Why should I fix this?

You can fight City Hall on this because you also found the home just as it is with all the additions. However, depending with the city laws, you may be required to fix the additions, since you are the current owner. You should seek expert legal advice regarding this so that you can know the best cause of action to take.

Contact an attorney and he will probably contact the Title Insurance Company because they have the records of that house at that address all the way back to it's first owner. The Title company is also responsible for the disclosure of any information that the buyer should rightly know about the house that could negatively affect the value, safety, or usability of the property. Let the attorney do the work.
