As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and (Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind.) 12Elisha saw this and cried out, ?My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!? And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his garment and tore it in two. This scripture is one that the Apostolic Oneness church tried to prove to be, rapture.
First Thes. 4......... 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. THIS IS ONE SCRIPTURE BECAUSE HIS FOOT DOES NOT TOUCH THE GROUND... WE MEET HIM IN THE AIR
The specific word or the event? Im not certain the specific word is Biblical. The meaning if the word 'rapture' as pertaining to Biblical events is: ecstatic joy or delight; joyful ecstasy, an utterance or expression of ecstatic delight, the carrying of a person to another place or sphere of existence, the experience, anticipated by some fundamentalist Christians, of meeting Christ midway in the air upon his return to earth, the act of carrying off. - Verses talking of this 'rapture' of Christians are: 1 Thessalonians 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 1 Thess 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 1 Thess 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 1Cor 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 1Cor 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 1Cor 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 1Cor 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. Matthew 24:30-36 "At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. "Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
I think they have taken something in Thess. and interpret it to mean the rapture. I never heard that term before a few years ago. It seems to be a belief held by new Christians. It's not a wide spread belief in our area, except with some new Christians. The elect are Christians. There's no way that Matthew 24:29 means people left! Those left are not believers in Christ, until then, they most certainly are not the "elect"! We are taken up with Jesus, who comes down on a cloud, but not until the tribulation is over. We will be protected, as you posted Psalms 91 tells us how, angels take charge. They will even lift us up so we don't stub our toe. Wish they were around me more often! Also, as Paul spoke of, time will speed up for the elect. We will see the wrath of God, and we will be completely protected.
Two will be working in the field, one will be taken and one left... In Revelation, it says'the angel says to the churches' until the last time it simply states, 'the angel says.' Not to the church, because the church is gone. I don't believe the horrors of the tribulation can fully manifest while praying Christians inhabit the earth. Those prayers are holding too much back. But I tell you what, I am not gonna turn the rapture down. And if I stay here, I am gonna stand firm on God's word. Not in my strength, but in the strength of Jesus. Whoo hoo!
In II Thess. 2:7 it tells that the Antichrist would not be revealed until the Holy Spirit, the church is taken out of the way. The church will be raptured before the Antichrist rules the earth, but more will get saved after we go. The Jews will be taken away to Petra for their escape after the first 3 1/2 years at which time the 144,000 Messianic Jews who are evangelizing, will be raptured then in mid-tribulation.
There are books that explain it in detail such as Daniel and Revelation by Paul Y. Cho and books by David Jeremiah such as "What in the world is going on?"
Rev. 4:1 is when the rapture occurs in Revelation. See also I Thess. 4:13-18.
