What will be the gauge of stainless steel used for staircase railing? My vendor says gauge 16, grade 304.

Report as

Any gauge from 12 g, 400 to 16g, 304 will be better for the stainless steel for staircase railings. However, the gauges will have different prices depending on their size and quality.

My question is, is it normally used specifications?

grade 304 is standard industrial quality stainless. Is this stairway inside or outside? Is the stairway self supporting or is the stiar railing part of the support for the stairway? If the handrail is simply a handrail your material shoudl be just fine. Why are you concerned? Do you want a 'beefier' hefty looking railing?

Thank you very much for your reply.
I am looking for internal staircase hand railings. Its simply a hand rail. I was confused because one vendor said he will use gauge 16 and the other said gauge 14. Gauge 14 is costlier, since its thickness is more. So, i just want to know gauge 16 is OK or not for internal staircase hand railings.

Grade 304 is a much better quality stainless than the 400 grades which will eventually rust , The lower the number , The better the grade , So go with grade 304 and you will only have to do this job once
