Is there a safe OTC product that I can give to my dog to sedate her to clip her nails?

You need to call your vet for advice. Many OTC meds can be safe for animal use, BUT they are in the wrong doses, or combined with things that animals react badly to. Your vet can give you some quick advice over the phone.

Call your vet! Do not give the dog any OTC meds.

One thing you can try is buying a drummel. It is a little easier for a lot of dogs than clipping. Also, if you haven't tried it, take dog to pet salon or vet to get clipped. Sometimes they are easier for strangers to handle.

AND, if you get a dremmel, make sure you get an "adjustable speed" and not the single speed (HIGH), it makes a difference.

What would the dosage be for 12 lb dog? Regular Benadryl? Please see Quester2011. Thank you.

I'd use the children's and a small child's dose, 1-2 tsp. I have a larger dog and use the Adult, regular Benadryl. I'm sure the store brand is same thing, like Walgreens' brand name.

Save yourself alot of trouble. Take him in and have someone do it. Takes about 5 minutes.
