I purchased a car in 2000 that was totaled in 2002. I have been incarcerated for 7 years; credit report still showing negative debt.

The debt was charged off in 2010. Experian states that these types of debt should not show up after 7 years. I disputed, it was not removed. If I contact the loan company, can they now come after me for the amount left on the original loan?

Your loaning company will definitely ask for the amount you owe for your car. It would be helpful if you visited their offices and consulted its management team on how you can make the payments slowly to clear the debt hence avoid any law violation.

your credit should show it was charged off but still hurt your credit. In some cases it wont come off. It will just show no balance owed. It stays because it wasnt paid.
