Why do goldfish drown
Fish do not "drown" as that means fluid in your lungs. They die from suffocation if the water does not have enough oxygen in it. They run water through their gills to extract oxygen from the water.

They don't drown as much as they suffocate. And that is usually from lack of oxygen in the water.

When you drown, you're in water. Fish live IN water. So technically, they can't drown or fish wouldn't live there!
That's like saying do birds die if you were throw them off a cliff

You forgot to put them in the dryer!
Drag them backwards and the water enters through the gills in reverse and this effectively drowns them
