What is the use of starter motor in a car?

I want to know the use of Starter motor in car. Can anyone tell me the reason why it is used in cars?

not a mechanic but as i understand it the transmission has a shaft that runs to the motor.along the way the starter is connected to this shaft and ends up connected to the bottom of the pistons. the starter moves the pistons up and down while fuel is introduced into the top of the pistons and the spark plugs ignite this fuel causes combustion which ends up taking over for the starter. then the more you push the gas pedal the more fuel the faster the pistons move up and down hence faster the car can move while in gear. also a starter is not needed if the car is a manual. example popping the clutch as its referred to means that the car is in neutral and you roll it to get some speed up enough to put the car in gear which turns that shaft and the pistons and then comes combustion and the car starts.

Turns the fly wheel / pistons/ valves briefly until it runs under it's own power.

It replaced the crank that was used to start the early cars. With out a starter motor even the most expensive internal combustion car is just a large paperweight.

In the original design, combustion engines had to be started by hand. You took a steel crank, connect it to the front of the car and spin it by hand. You had to use force to get the engine to turn and thus start up on its own. This is the same principle used to start small engines (lawn mover, power washer) with a string that you pull. The idea is to force the motor to spin on its own. The problem with car engines was that when the engine started it would violently spin the crank. People were often seriously injured even killed when this happened because the crank would hit them on the head or twist their arm breaking it. It wasn't until a friend of one of the Ford engineers got killed, that an engineer decided to develop and automated starting system.

It is used to crank or turn the engine over, as it turns fuel is sprayed into the combustion char, the first step in the process. In diesel it uses pressure and heat as you operate the starter to compete the combustion or explosion.

Serves as a useful tool to start the car easily.

you know how on the old BI planes, you Started them by manually spinning the blades by hand? Well the Start on a car does that mechanically when electricity hits it, so instead off the hand crank, it does it for you.
