Does skipping breakfast make you put on weight?

I'll make the answer sort of simple: if you skip breakfast, you may expect to lose weight. But that's incorrect. Breakfast isn't meant to make you grow wider, it's meant for you to stay healthy. So, if you skip breakfast, your body realizes how unhealthy you are being, so your body will try to "add more fat to you". The effect you have on skipping breakfast is that you'll just end up unhealthy, losing no weight at all, or gaining some.

my friend has tried that.... he's an idiot but he does exercise and doesn't eat a lot in the day will he loose weight?

Why you shouldn't skip breakfast:
Reason #1: Your brain needs fuel to function at its peak.
This fuel comes in the form of glucose derived from food and is needed to walk, talk and perform all other activities. When you skip breakfast your brain is forced to work extra hard in breaking down stored carbohydrates or to turn fats and proteins into usable forms of glucose. Eating breakfast has been proven to improve concentration, increase your problem solving capabilities, enhance overall mental performance and even boosts your memory and mood.

Reason #2: Your metabolism will go into famine mode.
Three to four hours after you eat, your metabolism shuts down and acts as if it needs to store food. This is a great function to have if a famine were to break out, leaving you without food for days. Since this is likely not the case for you, it is pretty annoying when your body starts packing on the pounds in an attempt to protect you from starvation! Eating breakfast communicates with your body the fact that you are healthy, well fed and not in need of extra fat storage.

Skipping breakfast can/will make you snack or eat more throughout the day.

Your reason 2 is faulty...your metabolism goes up and down constantly depending on the time of day, but as for your body going into starvation mode; that takes about 40 days, sometimes even longer, to happen and your body will not just start storing fat because you skipped a meal. It will use your Glycogen (sugar stores), then your fat, and then protein, THEN you have starvation.

Skipping breakfast has no positive effects. Being hungry and eating more throughout the day may be one of the negative effects, in addition to what awkotawk0 mentioned - your body thinking you are starving and trying to conserve its fat and energy. Don't skip breakfast.

Your body craves nutrients after sleeping all night. So feed it properly. You have a greater chance of hitting the junk food through being hungry around mid/late morning if you don't have a nutritious breakfast. Ask yourself why you would want to skip breakfast and write it on a sheet of paper headed 'my excuse list'. (too busy, not enough time, not hungry, etc.)

You will definitely lose weight if you go to work without eating breakfast. My cousin got ulcer because of it.

It is a defect in the lining of the stomach or the first part of the small intestine, an area called the duodenum. It happens when person skips meals or not eating even when feeling hungry. Mostly busy people get this especially people who drink too much alcohol.

I talked to my doctor about EXACTLY that a couple days ago. The doctor said that Skipping breakfast actually makes you gain weight faster. Because Your body has a survival instinct. IF you regularly dont eat breakfast then your body is telling it self to preserve the food you get instead of burning it off Therefore the food you eat that entire day goes straight to fat to help you survive longer. But if you DO eat during the morning then your body is telling itself alright i have enough food. Hope this help it came straight from my doctor to you :)

Yes because the acid in your stomach eats the lining of your stomach and when you have to remake the lining you end up putting on weight so don't skip breakfast people esshh

ideally no skipping breakfast will not make you lose weight, but the fact that your sksipping a meal in general will cause the urg for constant snacking ( which may not seem that bad at the time but trust me it adds up or eating later on in the evening which is even worse. the just is, eat breakfast.

There's a reason they call breakfast the most important meal of the day. I skip breakfast everyday because I don't have an appetite until lunch. I don't seem to gain/ lose any from it. You really shouldn't skip though, it's really good for you.

Because if you dont eat breakfeast in the morning we will be hungrier later on and tend to eat more. Its very true that is the correct answer

Research has shown eating breakfast makes you eat less total calories over the course of the day. Fiber is always great to include as it leaves you feeling satiated and (usually) comes from healthy, whole food sources that pack nutritional punch beyond just fiber. It may. The reason we eat breakfast is to put nutrition into our body after the longest period of time in the day when we don't eat, sleep, so by not eating breakfast you could eat more for lunch making you gain weight.

No. You never GAIN weight by skipping a meal. That's neither logical nor scientific. However, if you overeat later in the day to make up for how starved you made yourself feel by skipping breakfast, THAT can make you gain weight. If you slow your metabolism or put yourself in starvation mode by skipping meals, that alone won't make you gain weight, but it will prevent you from losing weight (which explains why overweight people can die of starvation). That said, it can still be dangerous to skip meals. Malnourishment can cause illness and death.

I know some of these products sound sketchy. They do work though, I know from experience. You do have to eat better and exercise though. I always check with http://spiffyreview.com/category/weight-loss-diet-plans/ before I try anything or spend any money on weight loss or diet products, it's a review site of all kind of products.

Skipping breakfast wont put you on weight. You got lesser energy when you skip breakfast because breakfast has the energy you need to get for your whole day doing.

The short answer is no. Skipping breakfast won't make you gain weight. It's always calories in verses calories burned by activity. That said, it is better to eat breakfast so you won't have spikes in metabolism. If you starve yourself in the morning, you might overeat later in the day.

skipping breakfast doesnt help you lose weight. in fact, if you eat breakfast, it will help you lose weight because it builds up your matabilism and gives you energy to burn caleries. the earlier you eat, the better, because you have all day to burn it off. also, if you have a good breakfast, you will be satisfied most of the day so you will have less cravings to eat. My advice to you is, eat a nice filling breakfast that is healthy. Eat atleast 6 small healthy snacks a day, instead of 3 big meals. Drink lots of water. walk atleast 45mins to an hour every day. Plan out a work out routene and stick to it every other day. Take on jogging even. One more thing. DO NOT eat past 7pm. Go to bed hungry.Most people make that mistake and they get themselves nowhere
