What does it mean when you see a black woolly caterpillar besides a bad winter?

Some people also say the woolly bear sections between the black and orange sections predict how long each portion of winter at the time is going to be. The rear is for winter going on to spring, the middle for mid winter and the front is for fall and the beginning of early winter.

The narrower the brown on the caterpillar supposedly means the more severe the upcoming winter. Just a fun myth though.
