Should I learn Spanish or Italian?

I'm studying French in my uni, and the next year I have two obligatory semesters of a language that I can choose. I've been thinking about either Spanish or Italian - thing is, I kind of like Italian more and I am more eager to learn it, but I know Spanish might be more useful, even in Europe, which is where I live, and probably easier to learn. I am not sure which one to choose. Any ideas about additional pros and cons and whatnot? Thanks!

Italian!!! so go for italian!! everyone else chooses the easy and boring path of Spanish. you will look cooler (to me, at least) if you learned italian. plus it looks better on a college report, I think.

Hi, Rose. If you live in the U.S., I definitely would go with Spanish. We have so many Spanish-speaking people here now I think I would be a great language to know and would be very helpful to you. Also, maybe at some point, you would have a chance to teach a ESL course.

HI Rose! If you live here in the U.S.A like me. Then I think you should definitlly go with Spanish. Now Italian may seem easier and cooler, but lets face it. There are more Spanish talking people here than Italian so Spanish would be more of a use. Especially to listen in on someones conversation. BUT If you don't live here in the USA then I would go with whatever more people speak in your country.

Italian. Why?
Italian and Spanish are actually quite similar. Spanish, once you have Italian in your background, can be more easily mastered. In addition, since Spanish is spoken by more people worldwide than Italian and, therefore, more popular, you may eventually pick it up in a near-total immersion environment.
Ciao, bella! (And I don't even speak Italian but am fluent in Spanish and can understand a lot of Italian as a result.)

I would recommend you to learn Italian. This is because you said you live in Europe and can easily learn Spanish. According to me it is always better to learn something new than the one which you can learn anytime. Plus college is a place where you receive education and learning new things in your college is not a bad idea.
Another aspect is if you are interested to learn Spanish then go ahead because if you are not interested in Italian then there is no use learning it because you won't be learning it with full concentration and you will end up learning nothing properly.

Yes, Definitely. Spanish is the third most spoken language next to English and Mandarin. And because South America's economic well-being is increasing quickly in the close future you will find yourself interacting with many awesome Latin Americans. Not only that but it is a fun and beautiful language to learn. Most jobs in America will start employing those who are able to speak Spanish which most already do. Do yourself a favor and learn Spanish. BUENA SUERTE! :D

Spanish is the easier language to learn because pretty much what you see letter wise is how it's phonetically pronounced. Generally speaking you are correct in assuming that Spanish would be more advantageous to learn for your future since those who speak Spanish far outnumber those who speak Italian in this world.

When I think of Italian speech I think of the usage of many vowels and their accompanying corresponding sounds. This is one reason that Opera singers prefer singing in Italian.Vowel sounds are easier to sing than consonants and they offer a more pleasing sound to the ear.

Communicate with 350 million native Spanish speakers worldwide.

Spanish is spoken by at least an estimated 350 million people around the world and is currently the 4th most commonly spoken language worldwide. Geographically, a large number of countries have Spanish as a dominant language: Spain, the United States, Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, Equatorial Guinea, the Philippines, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Peru, Mexico, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Panama, Colombia, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Knowing Spanish opens the door for you to communicate with 1/3 of a billion speakers worldwide!

2. Communicate with Spanish-speaking people at home.

3. Learn Spanish to enhance your travel experiences.

4. Use Spanish to improve your employment potential.

5. Learn Spanish to improve your knowledge of your own language.
