Music education has been proven time after time in study after study to aid with spatial relations, left-right hemisphere development and synchronization, logic, mental discipline, and a host of other cognitive skills. Look at countries in which it is a part of their core curriculum. They ALL out-perform the U.S. Here's a link for more info. on the many benefits of music education: http://www.pbs.org/parents/education/music-arts/the-benefits-of-music-education/
Definitely! Music notes are like numbers. You count as you are playing. You have whole, half, & quarter notes so you are using fractions. I'm sure there are even more correlations with mathematics, but that us what I remember from a basic music class in junior high.
