Why are there too many gods but one true God?

Report as

Who says there is "one true god"?

MAYBE there is only one god.
MAYBE there are multiple gods.
MAYBE there is no god.

It's all a matter of opinion.

There's also no such thing as knowing that you're right when saying this. :)
Report as
If I didn't believe I'm right, I wouldn't have said it. There's also such thing as a "personal opinion" :]
Report as
Exactly! You believe that, and you have the right to, but it's just that it doesn't make your belief a fact. ;]
Report as
Yea, but your personal opinion had no defense or statements to back up the argument, so it's officially invalid as it holds no substance as a sufficient reply.
Report as
I never said it was a fact, even though I believe it is. How can you have more than one God anyway? Who'd be God then?
Report as
Maybe you just need to sit down and think about it dear. You can't teach an old dog new tricks. Read up on it or something, because you sound rather uneducated on the broader subject at hand.
Report as
@IWannaRock, what makes you think my reply was based on an argument? I only answered the question based on what I believe.
Report as
No one, because it wouldn't be fair.
Report as
There is only one god and his name is jesus
Report as
lolz and you can teach a dog new tricks, it just depends on rather the dog is willing to learn it or not. And you sound more offended than "helpful".
Report as
I'm not offended at all. I have just come to learn that god is real and e can be your best friends if you let him.

@Erinlovesgames, thanks for sharing, and you're absolutely right. One thing though, you can't let what other people think stop you from speaking out. Even if it is offensive.
Report as
True statement.. I agree with you.
Report as
I'm never rude by choice. I just respond how I feel is necessary. It's to the reader to determine whether or not offenses were directed at any specific party member. As in school panel discussions, one must first have an opening statement and to which another disagrees and adds on. Perhaps you're reading what it is I am saying is in an insulting fashion where it was merely a second view point :P
Report as
you said "It's to the reader to determine whether or not offenses were directed at any specific party member." well xXLadyBugXx is offensive....
Report as
@IWannaRock, So you're rude even when you choose not to be. Well, my reply to Erinlovesgames' question was simply based on my own personal interpretation and belief, and on Ask. com, the opportunity to express your own interpretation and belief is greatly supported and welcomed. If my answer was offensive to you, that's you.
Report as
The she is and I can't change that. I was not offended by your statements because I spoke throughout, well how I typed throughout, was neutral and never specifically resting my case in an uncivil manner. And xXLadyBugXx can either continue to be offended or not. By the way "You can't teach an old dog new tricks." Wasn't talking about her. It was talking about religions as a whole. Just thought I'd clear that up, as I'm not sure if she read it or understood it properly in the context I placed it, and don't get me wrong, it could have been misplaced. All in all, I was rather neutral, merely presenting a second side to the point made.
Report as
*Then
Report as
I must have said something. Now there's an argument on who was offended or not :P
Report as
It's not an argument silly, I'm still talking neutrally. When I get mad you'd know it, lol. Funny how opinions mess things up, huh?
Report as
You sound quite concerned about how people take your opinion. How about making it know that this isn't an argument with every comment you post? Or making it clear you weren't offended too? That'll help you out.

Gods first commandment states there's other gods. We just aren't supposed to worship them.

@xXLadyBugXx: I'm never concerned about how people take my opinion. If they don't like it, that's their problem. Opinions, are of course, always going to be opinions. the witch in the bible was invented because Christians were scared of what they did not know about so they took the real witch and deformed it into what it is mistakenly thought of as today. the bible is false sometimes. witches have nothing to do with satan they do not believe in him. learn the truth and look at it from opur point of view do some research into witch craft and you will feel guilty for defending such a wrong statement

When there are is than one divinity in a religion (ex: the Greek religion) the "g" is lower case. Their names, however, will be capitalized. Ex: Zeus, Poseidon, etc... In the case of the Christian divinity Christ/God, there is only one of Him (even if he is divided into three parts (Holy Ghost, Jesus and God). Oh, and that's just how the most influential religious community roles, apparently. Hope that helped.

Well, because there are two general types of religions: polytheism, which is believing that there are from several to countless gods, and monotheism, which is believing that there is just one god. What is actually true and whether there even are gods at all we probably will never know scientifically. So yeah...

Ancient religions, such as the Greek's religion, had gods to present different subjects in order to explain different things. For example: "Why does it snow and the crops die once a year?" Well, they greated the goddess Demeter. Her daughter Persephone was stolen by Hades to be his bride and she is only permitted to visit her mother for half of the year (summer and spring). While Demeter is in mourning because her daughter is in the underworld the harvest would die (winter and fall). Demeter, the goddess of the harvest (or early version of Mother Nature) was the Greek's way of explaining the seasons and the way crops grow. Way, way, way, way before the Christian God existed, these religions were worshiped for centuries and explained everything from night and day to why the tides work as they do, or why the ground trembles. Religion was created to take away fear and by doing so, also created illogical explanations to issues the early civilisations were enable to define.

Allah says :

( 115 ) Then did you think that We created you uselessly and that to Us you would not be returned?"

( 116 ) So exalted is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.

( 117 ) And whoever invokes besides Allah another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.

( 118 ) And, [O Muhammad], say, "My Lord, forgive and have mercy, and You are the best of the merciful."

Quran (23:115-118)

it looks that you missed something dude ...
when the Bible says : Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.
or when the Quran says : And your god is one God. There is no deity [worthy of worship] except Him, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. (2:163)
---
That doesn't mean that there is other God ... For God is One , the Creator ,The Inventor ... but God accost people by which they understand ...
for example ... when people worshiped sun ... is son considered God ... No of course ... So when God says don't take other gods before me ...
that doesn't mean there is other gods ... and when we say there is only One God , we mean there is only One God (worthy of worship ) ...
and others are only names which people invented ...
Report as
Yes, you lack understanding. There's OTHER gods, little g.
Exodus 12:12

Ummm , is that according to you or to the Bible ... ?
so those other " gods " ... what have they created ?
Report as
You aren't saying that there's idle words coming from God are you?
He is THE GOD yes. There are smaller gods or God wouldn't have said that.
Report as
It's from the King James. Um, read it.
Report as
i am not speaking about the verses ...

you said : There are smaller gods or God wouldn't have said that.
is that according to you or to the Bible ... does Christianity teach that there is small gods ?
and you haven't answered , what have they created ?
and were these gods created or had they always existed ?
Report as
I don't know what other gods do. We aren't to concern ourselves with the other gods, as The God the creator told us not to.
Report as
you haven't actually answered any of the questions ...
but the one i want to know ..

Does Christianity teach that there is small gods ?
yes or no ... ?
Report as
No, it doesn't teach us about bears either but they exist. What's your point? God said there's other gods. Moving on with life now.....
Report as
" No, it doesn't teach us " & " God said there's other gods "
So , am i to understand that Christianity doesn't teach what God said ?
---
My point is that this is the first time i hear that a Christian say that there is small gods .. so i wanna to make sure if this is right or it is a personal opinion ?
---
And logically there can't be except One God ...
as for other gods .. who created them ? and what are there names ?
--
if my replies are annoying .. then don't reply ... thanks for your new info ,

Man creates many Gods, but only God creates man. The one true God is the one who made man, who caused us to think morally, and who asks of us moral lives. Man creates lesser gods so as to drown out the moral requirements and the worship of the one true God.

It is extraordinarily unlikely there are ANY true gods. Man invented them to explain what he could not in ancient times.

Wow your questions almost reflects this Bible verse: 1Cor 8:5-6 "?For even though there are those who are called “gods,” whether in heaven or on earth, just as there are many “gods” and many “lords,”?there is actually to us one God the Father, out of whom all things are, and we for him; and there is one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things are, and we through him.

There is only one true God! All of the gods of this world were created by Lucifer In order to mimic what God is. Isaiah 14:12-14 KJV How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! [13] For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: [14] I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Describing something as a "god" does not mean you believe it to be a divine being. The vast majority of Old Testament Scriptures which speak of gods are speaking of false gods, those who claim to be gods but are not. There is only one God. There are false gods and those who pretend to be gods, but there is only one God.

Because people will always create gods in an attempt to gain power. Its easy to make something and then declare that it is a god of something. However in the end there is only one true God because there is only one being who truly deserves the title of God. All the other gods are just constructs of humanity who have been given that title by humans.
