Why are Americans so set on keeping immigrants out of this country, when we ourselfs are immigrants?

Report as

We are not against legal immigrants. We are against illegal immigrants who broke the law to be here. Huge difference.

I see the point, so you're saying that when the "pioneers" (immigrants) first came here, that we did it legally because we made law? That doesn't make sense, you can't just make rules as you go.
Report as
You seriously need to research the facts about illegal immigration. So many issues with that, our country is hurting more from it than anything. They have the audacity to rally and demand rights. What rights? You are not a citizen. Why not demand equality and government reform in their own countries?!
Report as
Not all countries have freedom of speech.
America is meant to be a place of escape, because when it was first colonized, its people decided that nobody should have to be persecuted the way they were by their country, which later influenced the writers of the Declaration, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights.
"Give me your tired, your poor,
your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
Send your homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."

It's because they bring drugs in and are illegal and don't pay taxes like the rest of is

I understand that, however, aren't pharmaceutical drugs the same thing? And to point out that they don't pay taxes, I know someone who gets disability checks and there is nothing wrong with him, so it's not just immigrants, Americans do it too.

How about jury duty
Report as
Even Americans don't want to do jury duty, so they say anything, and everything to get out of it.

its hard to get out of jury duty these days

but people try to get out anyway. still counts.

well no one wants to pay taxes yet in almost every country its a required
Report as
Nobody likes to pay money for something they cannot see when they're buying it. When you pay taxes you are paying for the government's help, which does not come in the form of individually packaged granola bars (usually). And that's why it's important to have a government that allows you to choose what your tax money pays for and what you're taxed on.

We are not against keeping out immigrants. They just need to go about it legally

I see, but didn't the "pioneers" (immigrants) do that illegally
Report as
There weren't any laws at the time.
Report as
It's totally not an analagous situation. After those pioneers settled, they proceeded to attempt to rape and enslave all of the native people living there. There were no laws in effect that said otherwise.

well we dont want to keep them out we just want to make them come here legally so they can live like we do. if they dont come here legally then people pay them under the table and they dont pay into social security and then when they get old they can find a way around it and take a social securtiy check when they didnt even pay into it which causes social securty to dissappear. there alot more to it just not enough room to put it all out their. point is if an immagrant wants to become a citizen here all they have to do is get a visa to come here and then pass our immagration test

There's a difference between being bought to America against your will and sneaking in illegally. Illegal immigrants do not contribute to our economy financially because they don't pay taxes, but are the first to demand rights. Bottom line, if they're not citizens you don't have any rights in this country. Especially here in Southern California, our schools are over crowded with illegal immigrant children, they are able to receive benefits from the state, and expect us to learn their language. Basically we are supposed to cater to them. Wow.

I see your point, however, I know people who rip off the government for social security everyday, and they were born here, just because they are illegals, and "rip" off the government for benifits, doesn't mean the American people don't either.
Report as
You asked a question I gave you answer. No country is perfect because there will always be crooks, no matter what part of the globe you are from. But this country is over crowded with illegal immigrants, that's why my state (California) is in debt. Too concerned about taking care of people who do not contribute to our economy.
Report as
Not to mention, they contribute to our identify theft problem. Stealing American citizens social security cards and identification. They get jobs and work under the table with no immunizations. Bring diseases into our country.

The majority of people here aren't against immigrants, well the legal ones. We don't want and are sick of illegal immigrants who broke the law coming here, take some of our jobs, don't pay taxes and don't carry car insurance. They are a nuisance and danger to our society. Deport the illegals and keep the legal immigrants. And technically I'm not an immigrant, my ancestors are. I was born here so I'm a natural citizen.

People who oppose illegal immigration specifically say that the immigrants will take away their jobs, not pay taxes, break laws, do something bad for economy/society/govt etc.

People who oppose all immigration (and the legalization of immigration) say that the legal immigrants will do some of these bad things as well, and also refuse to be a part of American culture or learn English, and do some other bad things too.

If there's anything I haven't mentioned please comment. I'm just writing this off the top of my head so I don't remember all the things that each side argues.

Personally, most of the legal immigrants (that i know) are harsher and think worse of the illegal immigrants than non-immigrants do. Because they went through the system legally and it was difficult. Therefore the legal immigrants have little to no respect for the people who try to get what the legal immigrants had to work so hard for, for free (or a lot less time-wise). It is a tough process for a reason, and those too lazy to do it do not deserve to be treated equally to those who have. On another note, there is the issues of gang relations due to over-population. And it is easier to join a gang than get legalized and get a real job. Therefore illegals look at gangs as opportunities rather than problems. Illegals also fly under the radar of the government which exempts them from the contributions the rest of us make towards the well-being and economic growth of the nation. And if you know legal people who are cheating the system, don't think that people like them any more than illegals. Because i certainly have more respect for immigrants (legal or illegal) than those people that betray and cheat their home country.

In my opinion, we are supposed to be a nation of laws, at this time we have a process for gaining admission to this country legally , as does nearly every other nation ! There is no opposition to immigration as such , just to those that try to circumvent the system and suck up the benefits , what happened a couple of hundred years ago, happened , and is no justification to behave illegally today !

Immigrant is not a nationality, because my ancestors were immigrants, does not make me one. Those of us born here are natural citizens. There's a difference between illegal aliens, and immigrants.I wish people would stop using the word immigrant, to describe, illegal aliens. they are not the same thing, not even close. Few Americans have a problem with Immigrants.

Thank you, good point. I need to stop using that word to classify illegal aliens myself. Learn something new everyday.
