Why do you need an attorney?
Unless you are going to ask for a trial, and try to convince a jury you either weren't speeding - or had a good reason to (going to emergency).

If you're just going to pay the ticket, you don't even need to appear. Just send the money to the court.

Was not sure what to do in this case and i dont want this to come in to my driving history.

The only way it won't show, is if you fight it in court and are found "not guilty".

About the only way to win though ... would be to discredit the radar gun and/or dash cam.

I just called the clerk they are asking me to appear in the court or hire a lawyer

Look at the ticket ... it should say if you can just send a payment, rather than appearing in person.

Not common for traffic courts to *require* the person to appear, if they aren't fighting it.

As it is more 15 MPH they have asked to appear in person.

Probably just so the judge can "ream you a new one" ... lol

Wasting your money, you did or didn't. Min. you'll spend on a lawyer is $500, plus cost of fine.

You were caught speeding, just pay the ticket. You don't need a lawyer for that.

I got one two weeks ago. They did not put an amount on the ticket but a mandatory court appearance. I am an out of State resident and a single mom first time driving the high way leaving the Outer Banks unaware and unfamiliar with the roads there & their speed limitations. It was almost mid night and I did not see any speed limit signs in the pitch-dark roads with no streetlights and dealing with the oncoming traffic high beam lights. I was driving close to 75mph thinking it’s a high way with the usual 65-70 miles limit! They know there is no way I can make the court appearance while my kids who live FT with me & will have school in NY on the court date, they still issue me a ticket with no fine amount but a mandatory court appearance knowing my situation. When I came back home, there were at least 20 solicitation letters from NC lawyers asking to represent me for a fee from $500 & up! Is this a scam for out of state residents?

Are you a NC resident that they give you the option to pay instead of court appearance? How come that's not an option for me and I even asked the officer about it. Were there points for your fine?

Here in South Dakota they do put the amount on your ticket. You either pay it or go to court and fight it.. As for me ??... I knew I was speeding.. I showed him my registration and insurance and drivers license... I wasn't going to fight it. I got caught.. I willing paid the ticket.
