Part I: The God of Abraham Never Punishes Without Disobedience In The Picture. Yet, Because of His Great Love & Compassion He Provides Choices Along The Way To Be Rescued. Part 2: God Sent Jesus To Die To Redeem Us From What We De- serve and Bring Man Back To Himself. He L O V E S Y o u. ><> Scripture Quote ><> And some were convinced and believed what he said, and others did not believe. ----------------------------- And as they disagreed among themselves, they began to leave, [but not before] Paul had added one statement [more]: ---------------------------- The Holy Spirit was right in saying through Isaiah the prophet to your forefathers: ----------------------------- For the heart (the understanding, the soul) of this people has grown dull (stupid, hardened, and calloused), and their ears are heavy and hard of hearing and they have shut tight their eyes, ---------------------------- so that they may not perceive and have knowledge and become acquainted with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their souls ----------------------------- and turn [to Me and be converted], that I may heal them. (Acts 28:24, 25, 27 AMP)
God's an a$5? It seems like you've already got your own personal answer figured out there, and you just want to take the temperature of other people's opinions in relation to your own in a loaded question.
If you really want an answer its because religion exists to continually uphold a moral code in the masses to keep general morality...well, existing. It gave humans that didn't know much about the world closure and also a punishment if they acted against the moral code, which was eternal punishment in hell.
If the Bible said God didn't punish anybody, but that humans should still be good and fair(of their own accord), no one would follow the moral code. Well, few would. That's why there's a hell in the Bible.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. The way I'm understanding this question is: God is punishing people who are "only" curious about 2 people. You (general you ) and 1 other. No matter what gender, only 1 other. The word "only" leaves all other curiosities open game. Sexual or not. I'm not sure how "hell" comes into 1st place before compassion. However; given my interpretation, I can say God gave us curiosity. I can't imagine why he would punish us for a trait he gave Compassion as well as caring and passionate feelings for one another help us along the grand journey of life. We all need one another. Hell has nothing to do with caring for one another. I hope this gave a little light on the subject. Take Care.
This is one of the largest problems I have with religion. I'm agnostic, meaning I choose to live my life as though God does not exist although I cannot exclusively prove he does not. I'm just stating that right off so I don't get mobbed in the comments by a bunch of very strong believers (or by a ton of atheists).
Anyway, according to most Christian religions, God found that humans are basically evil and deserve hell. He found that humans, if given the opportunity, will make mistakes and that we are basically flawed creatures. He does provide us with hope though. According to Catholicism, by doing good deeds and being a good person you can earn heaven. According to the larger majority of Christian denominations, a person can only be saved by faith. There is, of course, the middle ground known as purgatory. Only certain religious groups believe in purgatory.
To summarize, God (at least the God I think you're talking about) did not punish everyone. He merely found that humans are naturally flawed and that we have to work to deserve heaven. Hope this helps.
In Matthew 10:28 Jesus says, "Do not fear those who can kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell." He is speaking to disciples, some of whom will eventually be tortured, sawn in half, flayed and burned alive. Yet, he says, that is a picnic compared to hell. Clearly, for Jesus hell was a real place, since he said that after judgment day people would experience it in their bodies. Hell is a place not only of physical but also of spiritual misery.
Jesus constantly depicted hell as painful fire and "outer darkness" (Matt 25:30; cf. Jude 6,7,13,) a place of unimaginably terrible misery and unhappiness. If Jesus, the Lord of Love and Author of Grace spoke about hell more often, and in a more vivid, blood-curdling manner than anyone else, it must be a crucial truth.
The whole story of Adam and Eve was a metaphorical parabol as are most stories in the new and old testaments. its about choice and self decipline. to know what not to do and not giving into temptation. we are all responsible for our own actions.
Because to god, we; his creation, are inherently evil because he created us. His self esteem is so low and he is so masochistic that he will punish himself through us. Upon partitioning his conciseness to us, he becomes sadistic when punishing us for his own crimes of self hatred when upon not imbuing us with such self hate because he has no more compassion for us despite our new found separateness from him. In short, god is unjust, cruel and self loathing.
If the rest of us never sinned we wouldnt have to suffer. Humanity isnt perfect. Humans chose satan over God and brought sin into the world and havent stopped doing so since. If every person stopped choosing satan and turned to God right now and never committed another sin God would banish satan immediately. But we know that wont happen because people enjoy their sins too much. its all about OUR choices and always has been. We live in the world we live in because of humans freely made choices. This world isnt the way God wants it, it is they way WE have made it. We arent being punished by God for Adams and Eves 'curiosity' we are living the natural consequences of consistent poor choices made freely by every human being that has ever existed, including our own, since Adam and Eve. The world is what humanity has made it by our choice.
Because the story of Adam and Eve and about 80% of the old testament is unture and fictional interpretations. Taken literally, those interpretations can really cause much confusion and more bad image to anyone who s Christian.
I was schooled in a Catholic institution from kindergarten to early college. And I don't associate with any religion other than my personal one.
It's easy to see why the Christian religion is the way it is. It was a collection of ancient stories told to frighten and comfort (paradoxically) pre-literate people. By the time these verbal traditions were put to papyrus, the authors and sources were lost to history, but it's quite likely there was no single author. All of it was piggybacked on celestial events put to the events occurring at the time.
Two of the more ridiculous tales in it, are also two of the most popular. Noah and the Flood, and Adam and Eve. Evolution is so gradual anyway, there never was only two humans. A population that small cannot even survive. A judgmental Sky God is yet another fabrication from ancient minds. Worry not.
Why do you continue to distort and mislead people about Christianity? Are you another disgruntled ex-_______ who has been taught so many lies as a child that you cannot receive the truth, even when explained over and over? And atheist 'bite' every time, because many of them are equally ignorant or rebellious against God. Hiding behind these types of 'fake' questions will get you nowhere.
Zane you do not know God at all. It takes wisdom and understanding to know Him. He is not punishing us for their sins but for our own if we make them and don't repent. If you had a nice clean home would you invite a bunch of filthy dogs in? God can't even look upon sin, how's He supposed to have that in HIS home? We have been given much warning and the choice. Those who make bad choices have bad consequences! But He loves us so much He sent His Son into the world to take our sins away and died for us! That's not commission?? Nice try.
You start will a totally false premise. God does not punish curiosity, nor is that the function of hell. - You appear to be completely unaware of the most basic principles of forgiveness and repentance. You are so confused I simply don't know where to begin. Accepting that your perception of God is totally misinformed would be a good place to start.
If one does not believe in this God you speak of .... What is the worry ? Those of us that do love and believe in Him have no fear of this HELL you speak of. We know it is so simple to avoid it. BELIEF and FAITH.
Adam and Eve were punished because of disobedience not curiosity. They knew full well to obey and they choose not to. Yes, we deserve hell, but out of God's love, mercy, and compassion did He send Jesus to save us from the hell we deserved.
If you are speaking of the fall of man in Genesis, the theology you espouse is not Christian nor taught by Christians. If you are going to object to a Christian belief, it's useful to get it right. God does not punish anyone for curiosity, not in Judaism nor in Christianity. Disobedience was the fault of Adam, and he did it knowingly, willfully. Jewish rabbis have stated that the sin of Adam created a gulf between God and man, which the mitzvot help to bridge. Christians say that the gulf is bridged by the work of Christ.
