Can medical marijuana help diabetes?

my daughter has diabetes just wondering

Report as

No... Diabetes can be controlled AND reversed by eating a proper diet.

The use of marijuana will most likely cause her to get the munchies.. Being high and having the munchies will most likely disable a proper thought process and will therefore be more likely to cause her more damage as she will probably head for the Doritios or Ho Ho's instead of healthier options.

You are incorrect. Read my other answer. It's better not to guess and actually do some research before answering.

@tralbry.The very link you put up also mentions how detrimental mj can be to your health. It can cause you respiratory problems, mental health, cause you drop out of school and so much more.So is it worth taking mj to help with your diabetes and at the same time create a WHOLE lot of new health issues you have to deal with??.My mother was a diabetic and with a proper diet and insulin she was able to control it.
Report as
Sorry, australis, but that "could" do this and that is mostly nonsense. The drop out of school is particularly funny but respiratory problems are not a major issue for moderate users, and mental health is just plain wrong. Cigarettes do far more damage to lungs and they have NO medicinal benefit ever,

I'm not suggesting your mother (or anyone else in particular) should use mj but it is a fact that it helps many people and the things you cited are anywhere from very uncommon to pure nonsense. Never tried the stuff myself so that's not my motivation but have read enough to know that the broad medical consensus is far more positive then you pretend. More tragically, the policy about here has done far more damage than the weed ever has.

Medical marijuana is used for cancer patients on kemo therapy and lose appetite. Marijuana isn't a cure. It is also addictive, and once you have built an immunity to the high you experiment, and get on other drugs. Seen it many times. 6 to be exact, some die.

It is not addictive and not a gateway drug. I doubt seriously you've seen any such thing 6 times since those are myths.

medical marijuana helps people with pain, and nausea, it doesn't cure anything. the best help for most diabetes is to eat a healthy diet, exercise, and follow your doctor orders.

I believe so. My mom had diabetes and the Dr. gave her medical marijuana to control her blood sugar . My mom was 53 years old and up till then had never used marijuana in her life. she believed it helped her. Also every Dr. Has different views on marijuana.

No. Marijuana cannot control blood sugar.

Using it reduces the chances of getting diabetes but even if you have diabetes mj offers some relief in terms of blood sugar levels. Ignore people who answer based on a guess just because they are anti-mj. Like it or not, mj is a good treatment for many, many things.

It actually ISNT a good treatment for many many things. Not if it causes other problems. Maybe you shouldnt just guess at your answers... maybe YOU should do a little research too.
Smoking ANYTHING, is detrimental to your health. It is just a proven fact. If you can control something with diet and exercise... wouldnt that just be the more common sense approach anyway? I think so too.
Report as
That is not a proven fact at all. And even less so with moderate use. It *can* be. That is not the same as it *is*. For whatever low risk there is to respiratory issues there are superior medicinal benefits. I never said nor implied it was a good treatment for all or even most things. I said MANY things and that is true. In fact, it has more positive effects than any single legal legit drug except maybe aspirin and penicillin.

Exercise and diet are fine, probably better for most people with diabetes but they're not enough in all cases. MJ and other options perhaps are. I was answering the question a asked... which is could it do any good? Yes, it could.

I've actually read a lot of research about mj. It has more positives than people realize and certainly more than alcohol or tobacco which are not criminalized. Obviously I know a lot more than you do.
Report as
It has negatives too though... Like RESPIRATORY diseases. Why on earth would you trade ONE disease for another?? That is my point. Just because you want to be a pothead... doesnt mean it is good for you.
You dont know half as much as you pretend to... You seem to just want a reason to get high.
Diet and exercise will and can cure anything disease out there. It has been proven time and time again. The only reason to study and research marijuana is to try to validate its use.... So that you can feel less guilty about being a pothead. For the record.... It will be legalized one day... I am sure of it. So dont fret. You will be able to smoke all you want.
Report as
No, actually, it is very negligible on respiratory disease unless you're a very heavy smoker. No has EVER died from smoking MJ, not even or respiratory reasons. No has died from MJ for any health reason unlike cigarettes and booze where deaths number in thousands upon thousands.

You're not trading anything for anything. If you have high blood pressure and take pills for that then you are not trading, even though the pills may have their own risks. You're using a pharmaceutical tool that has risks, too. It's a balance.

I've never smoked pot in my life. Not one puff nor a brownie or anything. I'm motivated by the truth about it and nothing more. You're the one acting based on bias, in your personal aversion to it.
Report as
You dont seem to understand.... You dont need phamaceuticals either. EVERYTHING can be cured through diet... and exercise. Pharmaceuticals are more likely to do damage then they are to repair or cure anything.

I have tried it... I have absolutely no aversion to it either.... except that it is unhealthy. Why are you making assumptions??
Report as
I didn't assume you hadn't tried. I said you had an aversion to it - as a medicine. So now that's two bad assumptions you made.

Sorry, but I am not adopting dark ages that all cures must be natural or can't come from labs or medical pros. Some can be synthesized and some can be natural. MJ is natural.

Also, you're full of it. If you get a serious disease wears meds are warranted you won't be telling the doctor "no thanks, I'll change my diet instead".

Report as
But I dont have an aversion to it.... You just assumed I do.
As you have researched weed.... I have researched natural healing. Their is a cure for everything out there. I will most definitely say NO thanx I have spent a lot of years in the medical career field myself.... so I know things that others dont.
Report as
Not full of it by the way... That is just you assuming yet again.
Report as
Backpedaling now? You said don't use it because it has too many negatives as a medicine,. That's an AVERSION. Look up the word.

I believe in some natural healing and holistic healing has some value, too. I also think is loaded with know-nothing phonies and "spiritual" con-men. It's all case by case for me.
Report as
BS isn't an assumption at all. That's my opinion of you and your argument. You can't contest that, really. I believe you'll ask for painkillers if you have a disease so bad the pain is that horrible. That's just the sane way to act.

Report as
I know the meaning of the word. I do not use it and dont believe that people should use it as it is only trading one bad for another. To me, (yes, my very own opinion) is that trading one bad for another is incredibly stupid. Again, that is my opinion.
Report as
I do not ask for pain killers. I have a high tolerance of pain. Always have. Besides... Pain killers mask signs and symptoms. I personally like to be aware of what is going on.
Report as
I have only been in the hospital once though too... so, what the heck.

Long term cannabis use dulls cannabinoid receptors in the brain leading to weight lose. This decreases the risk for obesity which is closely linked to type 2 diabetes. Cannabis does lower blood sugar levels which is what triggers an increased appetite. Coupling cannabis with healthy snack choices will help in the treatment of type 2 diabetes.
