You need to call your local Animal Control office and report them, they will come out and order them to keep their dog's confined. if it happens again call them and report it again and they will take action against the owners, usually a fine and possibly taking the dogs away from them.

btw Hey1's answer brings up point though, if YOUR dogs are not adequetly confined you could get into trouble too, so make sure you know the laws in your state/area regarding proper confinement of your dogs.

the cops and animal controll have been to the scene because of other neighbors calling them, they told the owners to give the dogs up, but the owners halls them off for a while then will bring them back

Put up a fence

Why should this person have to pay money and take actions they may not want to do when the fault lies with the dog owners? The solution is to hold the owners responsible and remove the dogs if necessary. Not force a potential victim to rearrange their life around that of the offender. I believe the mother would be within her rights to shoot the dogs if they come on her property.

First of all, make sure your mom doesn't shoot them, and second of all I have two pit bulls and they are sweetie pies, just make sure that they don't think you are threatening them they will bite you!

Most of my family has Pits i am good with animals, but these ones have bit people and are known around the neighbor hood for it

How many times have I heard the news reports where a pit bull owner, whose dog has just mauled a child, says "she was always such a sweetie pie". They should be treated like a loaded gun.

Buy a fence -
Problem solved !

Already have one, they still get in
Report as
In some states -
If you fear for your Safty
Or the Safty of your pets/ livestock
You can legally shoot them
FYI-
I recommend pepper on the fence
Line- should deter the dogs from getting in
Report as
Pepper? be specific
Report as
Mace -
Or hot peppers -
On their side of the fence -
You can make your own spray
Look up pepper spray
Or hot peepers and put in a spray bottle-
This will have to be repeated
Frequently -
As it will dilute - with rain and dew-
Report as
Ok ! will do thanks

Good idea sheldon!:-).

As to your comment about "build a fence", I give you the same comment I gave to Hey1: Why should this person have to pay money and take actions they may not want to do when the fault lies with the dog owners? The solution is to hold the owners responsible and remove the dogs if necessary. Not force a potential victim to rearrange their life around that of the offender. Your wrong -
They can shoot the dogs, yes ,
But only under these surcumstances
1 - if the dogs are attacking a person
Or their dogs or their livestock -
Why wait for this to happen -
Maybe split the cost of the fence
With this neighbor .
And I would keep calling animal control- in the event the dogs would need to be shot-
If it were me - a few warning shots
Into the ground when these dogs are trespassing should send a clear
Message to the owners that
I will shoot them-
So in heinsight -
Your correct , to an extent .
Report as
If the dogs are known biters as the OP states, I would not wait to be attacked before shooting (if I owned a gun) -- particularly with pit bulls. Once their attack is under way, their extremely high threshold for pain and other innate traits, makes stopping the attack problematic, to say the least.
Report as
That's nothing a bullet can't stop
Report as
The time it takes to aim when both the dog and victim are thrashing around is enough time for a pit bull to do significant damage.
Report as
And it would have to be a coup de grace shot, because otherwise, a pit bull has the capability to shake off the pain of anything else and continue with the attack.
Report as
This is why I suggested a fence-
Sometimes a price tag is worth it-

Your mom should not shoot the dogs. It will do nothing but be traumatic for you and cause legal problems with your neighbor.

Your mom needs to first talk to the neighbor about keeping his dogs contained in his yard. Inform him that Animal Control will be called if the dogs wander onto her property. That way the guy has had a warning, and who knows maybe he'll fix the problem. But if they wander over again, call Animal Control.

Also you can get a fence, this will help keep other dogs out as well as keeping your dogs contained and legal.

The home the dogs live at is a local drug house, those dogs are basicly
crack-attack dogs i have a fence, the dogs have already ate my rabbit, the police dont do anything
Report as
keep calling for legit violations; the more of a record they have against them, the easier it will be for Animal control/police to actually remove the dogs.
Report as
@Jugolo: It seems the larger issue here is that you are living next door to a crack house. That is the first thing the police should deal with. When the druggies are gone, the dog issue will be resolved. If the police aren't doing anything, contact your local city council member. Better yet, contact the local newspaper or investigative TV news team. That should get the ball rolling.
Report as
Other options are to report drug dealing to the FBI or to call 1-800-78-CRIME. Higher authorities will sometimes be better about cracking down on dealers. If your neighbors have seen drug activity, get them to also report it.

That's right. Make the victim pay for a larger fence rather than holding the irresponsible dog owners accountable for the actions of their pets. They are required to keep their dogs on their own property. Can't or won't do that, the dogs should be taken away.

Sounds like there will be a lot of Dogs around, if you don't have a good strong fence maybe putting one up would be a great idea! Not just to keep others out, but to keep yours in and safe also.

If you have reported the problem to animal control and the dogs have a reputation for aggression you can shoot them with no legal repercussions.

doesn't that depend on State Laws?

All state laws are pretty much the same about vicious dogs

Without a fence how are the dogs going to know their boundaries? You mom cannot expect dogs to see an invisible line.... If you have a fence, maybe you can reinforce it and make it dog proof. The dogs are your neighbors responsibility, I'd just explain your concern and let them know you will be forced to call animal control each time they come into your yard if it continues. They should have a fenced yard too.

Dogs are the responsibility of their owners, and it is their responsibility to keep them off the property of others. Neighbors should not be required to accommodate irresponsible neighbors. If the owners do not care enough about their pets to keep them on their own property, then the dogs should be taken from them.
Report as
Yes, true. Sound like both neighbors have dogs. My thought was don't fault the dog, but the owner.

I have read through many of the answers above, and over and over I hear a defense -- generally expressed implicitly -- that Jugolo's family should accomodate these irresponsible dog owners by building fences or taking other actions which cost them money or time. Dogs are the responsibility of the owner, and one of those responsibilities is to keep the pet off others property. If these dog owners don't care enough to do that for their animals, then the animals should be taken from them -- either by authorities or by the Jugolos taking things into their own hands on their own property.

I really get angry when pet owners think the world needs to accommodate their animals. Instead, they need to make sure they are accommodating society's rules regarding pet ownership.

Stars cal! I noticed the same thing but haven't had time to post.
It's ridiculous for the innocent person to have to go to the hassle and expense of a fence when it's the neighbor that is in the wrong
