Can a man change after getting out of jail?

Report as

Anyone is capable of changing. So the answer to your question is yes, they are capable of change. Does that mean it will happen, most definitely not.

My brother spent six years in prison. I thought for sure he changed. He got out, and was on paper for 2 years. He was good that entire time. The day he got off paper, he was out being "bad" again.

You're right. Nearly everyone is capable of change but most people don't change.

It's very unfortunate.

This is why I don't think rehabilitation is set up to work right in this country. Did you know that for what we spend to keep an inmate locked up for a year we could put him through 4 years of college and buy him a car? True. Why don't we spend money to help people stay out of trouble, instead of pouring in money when it's too late?

@koichan, because we've become stuck in the Re-active vs the Pro-active!
You see that in almost anything being done, all the way down to simple Q and A's on this site.:(.

When people come out of jail, they become more daring to commit a crime again. I have seen this in my are........Some people who were not used to commit any crime, once they did it and went to jail.and after getting out they started commiting more crime as they had become more confident to do it again.

I was just listening to a radio broadcast about this, but it was about those who had been in prison. One of the biggest factors to changing their lifestyle was their ability to obtain work.

My understanding is that although it is possible, it is rare. I think there are at least 2 explanations for this phenomena. 1.) It is nearly impossible to find a job, let alone one that pays a living wage when you have a criminal record, and 2.) Prison is where some people are comfortable. They know the rules, they understand their place in the system, they can earn respect from their fellow inmates--this is seldom true in society. Very sad.

It is really Sad, when young kids especially, think being in prison is actually being with "their people"!

Only if they deeply regret what they did not just for being put in jail but for the way it affected everyone else in their family or in the victims life

in jail, criminals hang out & learn from other criminals. they often commit worse crimes after being released.

there are some people who change. one of the greatest things about being human is we have the ability to reinvent ourselves. we CAN change if we want to badly enough. & that includes former inmates.

but it is hard.

Only if they want to change. Jail doesnt always change people, it can make them worse and more messed up in the head. It always depends on the person and their mentality
