I found a five & one dollar bill but there torn in half can I take them to the bank & get full value for them?

they both still have the serial numbers on them

No ... you can't ... http://usgovinfo.about.com/od/consumerawareness/a/replacemoney.htm

Just think ... if you could do that ... people could instantly double their money.

The serial numbers are on both sides of the bill, left and right, don't think that's the deciding factor. You might need at least 3/4 of it.

If you have both halves. Lol. You have to have most if the bill. Otherwise people would rip them in half all the time and try to get two.

Tape them together with clear tape. That's what I do.

Tape the half $5 and half $1 together and buy something for $5.99. Now I'm curious...

You didn't say whether you have one or both halves of the bills. IF you have both halves they are good and can be turned in. If you only have one half, then they are worthless unless you find the other half.

I only have half of both bills but both bills have there serial number on them

To avoid fraud, a bill will only be redeemed if at least one full serial number and part of the (same) number on the other half are both visible, otherwise you could tear a bill in half and redeem each half for full value.

Depends on how much of it you have and by that I mean physically. If you have both halves than there is no problem the bank is, by law, required to replace it. Also if you have the majority of the bill, over 51% and the serial numbers are visible than the same is true.

As long as it's more than literally half, 51% the bank must take it. If it's literally 50% you may have better luck bring it to a government agency.
