If the numerator is half of the denominator, then the fraction can be reduced to 1/2.

5 goes into both 5and 10. so, if you divide both by 5 you will be left with 1/2

find the greatest common factor of 5 and 10

factors of 5: 1, 5

factors of 10: 1, 2, 5, 10

greatest common factor of 5 and 10 is 5

pull out the common factor from 5 and 10

= 5 * 1 / 5 * 2

=1/2

cancel common factors

= 6/7

the simplest form is = 1/2 or 0.5
