Whats the purpose of halloween?

every halloween its all dress up scary.one day i went to school i tolled my teacher whats the purpose of halloween and she didnt know so this was a hard case.

Well halloween came from all hallows eve, which is when the viel between spirits and the earth realm is the thinnist, allowing spirits to return to earth for one night. I guess that evolved into scary stories and what halloween is nowadays
