Should I apologize?
So I was on a team with two coaches- one head coach (who I admit can be mean to the athletes and not just to make them better) and an assistant coach. The year before the assistant coach and the swimmers would often share a mutual dislike for the head coach and talk about it (but never say it to her face). I admit this was wrong and realize it now. However this year, we got a third, new coach. On the first day of practice I went up to the assistant, and continuing on the cynical jokes from the previous year, asked her why she came back, referencing to the head coach. The new coach was right beside her and obviously overheard.
Later the assistant coach decides to yell at my teammates and me for giving the new coach a bad impression of the team and trash talking the head coach. What should I do? Am I obligated to apologize to the new coach for giving him a "bad impression"? I admit I overstepped, but is it serious enough to require giving an apology? I want to be in good standing with all the coaches.
