Don't buy him clothes unless you know for sure he is going to wear it. I've made that mistake several times. If he plays video games I would buy that for him. Or cologne anything. Ralph Lauren Polo cologne works as a good gift!
Is he a 'sissy'? Cologne. I recommend Old Spice Figi scented. Is he tough and likes hunting and outdoorsy sports and woodworking? A Swiss Army knife. I recommend the Champion Plus ($45.12 amazon.com). Does he like a certain sport? Get him a fancy piece of equipment in that favorite sport. Hope this helps.

perfume ? maybe a shirt . Actually ,it depends on what he likes so think about something that he likes and would really love to have and buy it,even you can see the suggestions of all the people here and choose something you think he want so much
try to make him memorize about the first time you met him...or manage to do some of his works hes worried about.....make him realize ure importance like txtin him at 00;00....and preparing breakfast for him...go for gifting him some of his basics requirements which he can frequently use ...that would mark your memory...;P
Buy him stuff according to his interests. If he likes books, get him some great reads. Or if he is a crazy harry potter fan (or some sports team, percy jackson, hunger games etc) get him merchandise. You can also compile a CD of his favorite songs or songs by his fave band.
Money if college student. If you are married or a serious couple with children a free day alone to do what he likes to do, a night out with his buddies. Keep the kids away for peace and quite, send children to grandparents or stay overnight with relatives. I'm sure a day to himself and a nice dinner, candles, soft music, good wine and a night with you without the children would be nice. Guys could care less about getting clothes ! ;-)
A nice leather wallet or an engraved money clip; a shirt or hat, gift card to his favorite restaurant, movie gift card if there is one he's been wanting to see; bake him a birthday cake and decorate it with something special to him, anything that pertains to a hobby he has.....

Jesus christ you people don't know how to give advice the best gift is giving your man a Swedish massage give him the best massage out there I reccomend massage envy or better try taking him to one of those oriental massages believe me he will love you for it and after that he will give you one of those massages to you if you know what I mean he will be ready and grateful and let those fireworks start.
It depends on the guy for instance if it was my brother I would probably get him a knife, video game or book because those are things he likes for other people they might want a car or some sort of pet. It really depends on the guy so find out what he likes and go to the store and find some of those things.
