What could be wrong with my horses knee?

my horse is a 13 year old mare and she is my show horse. She has always has a bump on her knee that is abnormal. it is about the size of a golf ball sticking out of her knee. its on her front left knee and she is really favoring it. whenever we stop in the arena for more than five minutes she bends her knee and rests her knee. she sleeps with it bend. she doesnt mind when we touch it though.

There was a horse at the SPCA near me that had a bump about the size of a golf ball on its side. I was going to adopt the horse, but I ended up not doing so. I know it eventually got adopted by a woman, but I'm not sure what became of the horse. I would definitely see a vet, it could be cancerous.

My horse has the same problem. It is from either vitamin c or a calcium bump. I can't remember. If it's the same thing it shouldn't hurt the horse and can be surgically removed.

Is it squishy or hard?
Possibilities include joint capsule distension not necessarily associated with arthritis
extensor tendon/tendon sheath swelling
osteoarthritis of the knee.
Also calcium build up or a tumor
Radiographs would be necessary to be sure.

it turned out to be arthritis, the vet gave her some shots to help.

it is helping a lot, we give her meds before and after long and intense horse rides. she gets a shot once a month in her knee.
