What's the simplest way to learn a proper golf swing?

First, stand behind your ball with your golf club pointing over the ball straight ahead. Then, step directly 90 degrees around your ball and it will position your shot where you were aiming. Next, stand with your feet shoulder width apart. Now position yourself according to your club. When you are swing a shorter club, like a wedge, you need to stand closer to the ball. When you use a longer club, like a driver, you stand farther away.
Now when grasping the club, if you are right handed, place your right hand closer to the head of the club. Then slide your other hand behind it. Now point your thumbs along the club's grip and insert your left thumb in between your fingers and palm. Your grip should not be too tight but tight enough to hold on when you make contact.
When you swing your club, you want a fluent motion. This will keep a steady speed and increase your power. Now take a few practice swings to determine your footing. You may need to move your feet side to side according to where you are hitting. The mark where you have hit the ground should be directly behind the ball. When you find the spot, step up to the ball and keep your eye on the ball until you make contact.

There is just one book to get. "Golf My Way" by Jack Nicklaus. Read it over and over. It's the only book Greg Norman learned with. Before you go to pros, teachers watch DVD's, buy gimmicks you must learn the language of golf or you wind up wasting time and money. A pro tells you you are taking the club inside. What does that mean? If he or she needs to explain it your burning money and time.

Get some used clubs, just a couple and bang some balls at the range. See how you like it. Keep the "book" at your side and learn from the best player ever!!! Be mindful your body, coordination, athletic ability and general disposition come into golf before you touch a club. Adapt to what your body will allow. The best tip I can give you is to get yourself a used putter and keep it near your living room and putt, putt and putt some more until you can hit a dime from 15 feet. This element is the most important stroke in the game. "Golf My Way" and putt. You are about to enjoy a game for a lifetime.
