Is it legal to wear full heavy body armor in public streets in USA?

I'm moving to Detroit and I was wondering if it's legal to wear full heavy body armor, including helmet? If I don't, where I'm going, I am going to get killed.

Lol in Detroit it's not only legal but recommended.

Yes, there has never been a Federal law prohibiting the type of clothes people can wear in public. Although, not having enough clothes can be illegal and/or frowned upon.

well I doubt you will get killed, you'll probably be just fine, in any case I believe it's legal as long as its not visible.

So body armor has to be "concealed"?

I believe it is, but uh...If you don't wish to attract unwanted attention, I wouldn't recommend walking through the post office or your local shopping mall with all of that gear on. (Might make some folks a little nervous. Just saying. O_O )

I know exactly what you mean. I wouldn't wear the gear in any commercial stores.

I was raised outside Detroit, it's no different than other big cities with economic and employment problems.

As to your question.
If you're talking about full plate armor, like a knight in shining armor? Yes, it's legal.
If you mean tactical body armor, such as the kind our military and police wear? No, that's illegal.

Are you 100% sure I can't wear military tactical body armor? I know for sure I can at least wear a bullet proof vest. I just don't know about full body armor. btw, have you heard about deus ex, and do you know if any of the streets in the game resembles any streets in detroit?

Soft armor vests such as kevlar that are worn under normal clothing is legal, and while MTV's are legal as well, the solid plates that make them effective are not legal.
No I'm not familiar with "Deus Ex", though I know its a game, I've never played it.

I was born in Detroit. Keep in mind if you do decide to wear full body armor a few thing will likely happen. 1. If people really want to kill you they will more that likely go for the head shot! 2. It is heavy, hot, cumbersome, and on general, a pain in the a$$ to wear. 3. Plan on being detained over and over again by every cop that has visual contact with you. 3a. The cops will not be so trusting, more than likely you will be visited by police with really big guns. 4. Plan on spending some time visiting the friendly folks in the local lock up, and or the nearest mental health facility, or both. 5. This idea is just as $tupid, as the person that asked about it! the same thing would also happen in Chicago, or like size city!

You could have spared the offensive nr. 3, 4 and 5. And how would a combat helmet protect me against a potential head shot? I am going to Detroit wether you like it or not, and I'm going to save that city. But safety first.

Go to Detroit, I don't care if you do or not! If people see where they can circumnavigate your defenses they will! Not rude true! Your going to SAVE Detroit, good one dude. I needed the chuckle.

There are organizations in Detroit that are helping people for a better living. I just want to participate and do my part. I just want to make sure I don't get shot meanwhile. If nobody cares, nothing will ever change.
