Should the US Govt supply weapons to the rebels fighting the Syrian Govt?

I realize that the Syrian government is more powerful in arms and man power then the rebels are, but what will be the consequences to US interests when the civil war in Syria is over, will the rebels then use these weapons against our troops like the rebels in Afghanistan did after the Russians pulled out? What is your opinion on this please. thank you

No, we as a nation are broke and this prez wants to spend more money that we don't have to help people that if given the chance would chop the heads off every one of our infidel bodies.

The US Government needs to stay in the US. We have problems of our own. We don't need to be giving weapons to ANYONE.

Your right about the US keeping to its self, but remember, could America have declared independence with out the help of the French?

Did we want to kill French people?

You have already answered the question. While there are true freedom fighters in Syria attempting to over through a dictatorial regime, they fight alongside just about every terrorist organization in the world. It's a catch 22 however because if we don't help the rebels, and they win, their appreciation will be towards those terrorists and nations like Iran that did help them. We are damned if we do and damned if we don't.

No catch22. These people will always be our enemies. Their beliefs go not line up with the core beliefs of this country. It's really very simple in there eyes. If your not a Muslim you are given three options. Convert, die, slavery.

caluvox: so what would you suggest that the US Government do about this delicate problem in Syria? Maybe we should just keep our noses out of their affairs and let them settle their own differences between themselves.
Report as
As I stated Syria is a foregone concussion. We need to extricate ourselves from the middle-east entirely. We are weening ourselves off their oil and replacing it with oil from more US friendly markets. Next we need to shift more of the responsibility of protecting Israel to the EU. Once we are out of the picture their hate will focus inward and they will once again splinter into the ethnic and tribal factions the region has had for the last thousand years.

What is happening in Syria, as in many other places in the past, and future, unfortunately, is very sad. My heart tells me yes, let's help them. My mind however, tells me No. Syria is a no win situation if we do I believe.

The "rebels" of today are the "dictators" of tomorrow. How many times do we need to learn this lesson?

They tried that a few years ago, but was Afghanistan and the rebels were lead by Osama bin laden. Didn't turn out very well.

Nope. After the big deal made about trying to regulate weapons and ammo in this country, they have no business giving away weapons to anyone.

The rebels are Al Qaida. How can we supply them? I suppose it's the devil we know versus the worse devil we don't know.
But Obama has to do something. He painted himself into this corner. If he's not going to do anything he should just say so, and let Europe fill in the vacuum he is currently creating.

I would ask , should the US tax payer, foot the bill for another countries Civil war, even though we are broke. If we get involved, it will escalate into the billions. Keep in mind, Russia is a big ally of Syria. they will stand by them. It's time the countries in that part of the world, learn to police themselves.let these countries fight for their own freedoms, and civil rights. We did.

I fully agree, Russia may support Syria, but they also supported the puppet government in Afghanistan and lost, now they are trying to regain a solid foothold in the Middle East by supporting Syria.

You are right.

We don't really don't know who the bad guys are . We backed the Hussein regime, and look what it turned out to be.We keep thinking we should be the global police force, and I'm afraid it is hurting, more than helping.
