Why do we close our eyes when we sneeze?

Thanks in return!

Report as

Because if you don't close your eyes then your eyeballs will go flying outta your head!!! It happened to me one time.......getting an eye to go back in the socket is NOT fun....

Dinosaurs can go 100 mph too.
There were these giant dinosaurs discovered in south america. Largest biggest brontosaurus ever, also found a giant predator. As a defense mechanism this brontosaurus would whip it's tail to lash the predator. The tail would lash out at the speed of sound, hence breaking sound barrier meeoew

bronto saurus are not a dinosaur just two dinosaurs mixed up bymistake

You r welcome, how are you, brontosaurus is not a dinosaur, than what is it - a soropod?
Report as
Sneezing is pretty violent affair, your initial reaction is to tighten up your facial muscles - your face has the greatest concentration of muscles in just a small area the head. Your eyes close to protect it self from any particles. Particularly when the air coming out with the force of 100 mph

It's a reflex action. The liquid that comes out of your nose when you sneeze, is your brain fluid.

Hi hmmm eye poping, sounds interesting, how are you. Gave you a star & smile
Report as
closing your eyelids doesnt make a difference. your eyelid muscles wouldnt be strong enough to cope with the pressure that it takes to pop your eyeball out

Simple muscle reflex, nothing more.
Some of the other explanations are a lot more fun and interesting though.:-).

To keep our eyes from flying out of our heads! That and we would look just plain stupid keeping our eyes open when we do. It's like why do we close our eyes when we kiss?
Seriously, sneezing is a reflex to expel foreign objects from the upper respiratory tract. We close our eyes to help keep them clear when we do.

During a sneeze, tremendous stress is placed on the body. Considerable air pressure is place upon the eyes. This pressure is not enough to pop your eyes out of your head or even make them bulge out, but enough to make your eyes feel uncomfortable from the added pressure.

the pressure in your chest starts to build. Your noes feels twitchy, your eyes snap shut at a-a-achoo -- a sneeze rockets out at 75 to 100 miles per hour.

the God make them close when we sneeze because if we didnt our eyes will get out from our head and you can't control opening and closing your eyes when you sneeze and if you try you will open your eyes a little and this will gonna hurt your eye

Reflex, and because of the fact that your eyeball kinda needs to stay in your head. On a serious note, you sneeze to gets get germs OUT of your body, leaving your eyes open is an entry point for germs to enter your body....again.
