How to stop a nosebleed?

I banged my knee against my nose and it started bleeding heavily. It has been bleeding for a good 25 minutes now and a lot of blood clots are coming out. It's flowing too quickly that I can't blot it so I decided to hang my head over the sink. How do I stop it?

To stop nose bleeding, Sit up straight and tip your head a little forward. Do not lean your head back as this can cause blood to flow down the back of your throat. Tightly pinch the soft part of your nose shut using your thumb and finger. I hope this will help and sorry for the accident. See http://firstaid.webmd.com/tc/stopping-a-nosebleed-topic-overview.

Actually tilting your head foward would just make the nose bleed worse, tilting it back would let the blood settle in the the nose passages and would dry up, therefore stopping the bleeding. I've done this with TONS of experience because when I was younger I always had nose bleeds and I was always told to tilt your head back not foward, and that was coming from a pediatric doctor and a doctor in the Emergency Room.

Tilt your head back and pinch your nose tightly, wait about 5-10 minutes and then see if the bleeding has stoppped.
