What is the afterlife like?

how old are we in the afterlife? Do we just float around or is it more like our mortal lives? do we eat, drink, go to the bathroom, feel pain, see our loved ones who have passed? do ghosts really exist? can they "spy" on us? why would they want to? if they are dead, then why do they feel anger? Once in the afterlife, could you say that we are, in a way, brain washed?

Jesus is the sole authority and witness who is able to answer the question, And Christ, whose truthfulness and integrity are unquestioned even by those who deny His deity, makes three basic statements about the subject of life after death. There is an afterlife, there are only two alternatives as to where we spend the afterlife, and there is a way to ensure a positive experience after death.
Jesus stated the matter simply when He said, "These [unbelievers] will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life" (Matthew 25:46). Clearly there are two destinations for man after death. One is in the Father's house with Christ, the other in a place of torment, a place of "outer darkness" where there is "weeping and gnashing of teeth" (Matthew 8:12, 22:13, 25:30). There is no mistaking Jesus' words and meaning. Read more: http://www.compellingtruth.org/afterlife.html#ixzz2WNxpTD2m

The truth is these "ghosts" are not the spirits of men and women, but rather fallen angels masquerading as our loved ones. If man believes that he becomes a ghost or is reincarnated at death, he will exclude the possibility of heaven as his eternal home and God as his Father. Some "ghosts" have appeared to humans claiming that they want to "help" them. They posses a knowledge that only that person could know. Which is convincing to the person involved. But what that person fails to realize is that angels have existed since God created the world. Demons are "older" than us, and older than our loved ones. They can easily retain knowledge about that persons life that "only they could know" Demons are clearly out to cause harm. Such is the case in hauntings.

For those who repent of sin and put their faith in Christ as their Savior from sin and Lord of their lives, the afterlife will consist of an eternity spent with God. But for those who reject Him as the only means of salvation (John 14:6), hell and outer darkness away from God's presence is their destiny. There is no middle ground, no intermediate state, no testing ground, and no second chance. As life on this earth ends, life in one place or the other begins and it is so for every human being.

YOU don't change...you just don't have a physical body anymore. Like, how you are right now, except without a body. Now here's the important part. You will be faced with everyone you ever hurt in this life -- you will suddenly feel.... how you made them feel... and likewise with people you cared for lovingly, so you can see how it would be kind of hellish, or sweet. So you can understand the merit of The Golden Rule.

In the afterlife, you will not have your mortal body. Only your soul passes on.

Our Bible does not give all the details but Revelation 21-22 tell us alot.
It will be a million times better than what we have now. I know we drink from the water of life everlasting and eat from wonderous fruit trees. Jesus said He was going to prepare a place for us. He said it has many mansions. Mansions must be fantastic. It will be fabulous. Here is a quote from Revelation 22:---------------
1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:

The bible talks that; after you pass you instantlly go to the Father that created you. Paradise has two sides, divided by a gulf. The ones who made it, to the kindom side. The ones who didnt make it, to the judgement side. They will remain until judgement. But the good thing is, is that before judgement day, there is a great teaching (obedience) then judged. It also talks of eating Mana wich (food of angles) but we will be fed from Gods light as well. There is no pain and it speaks of any angles seen in bible were in early 20's of age, so that may give you some hint of our age. It also talks of family being able to help family during teaching, so yes we will know our family members. Look in Ezekiel around chapters 20- 40

No one really kniws the details. The only guarantee is that if you know God it will be more awesome than you can imagine and if you dont know God it will be horrific. Your choice.

Its something that we can never truly know as mortals, until the time comes. There are many theories, but the ones who know for good, aren't here to say.

God says in Qur'an:
99. Thus We relate to you (O Muhammad ) some information of what happened before. And indeed We have given you from Us a Reminder (this Qur'an).
100. Whoever turns away from it (this Qur'an - i.e. does not believe in it, nor acts on its orders), verily, they will bear a heavy burden (of sins) on the Day of Resurrection.
101. They will abide in that (state in the Fire of Hell) - and evil indeed will it be that load for them on the Day of Resurrection;
102. The Day when the Trumpet will be blown (the second blowing): that Day, We shall gather the (criminals, polytheists, sinners, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah) blue or blind-eyed with thirst.
103. They will speak in a very low voice to each other (saying): "You stayed not longer than ten (days)."
104. We know very well what they will say, when the best among them in knowledge and wisdom will say: "You stayed no longer than a day!" 105. And they ask you concerning the mountains: say, "My Lord will blast them and scatter them as particles of dust.
106. "Then He shall leave them as a level smooth plain.
107. "You will see therein nothing crooked or curved."
108. On that Day mankind will follow strictly (the voice of) Allah's caller, no crookedness (that is without going to the right or left of that voice) will they show him (Allah's caller). And all voices will be humbled for the Most Gracious (Allah), and nothing shall you hear but the low voice of their footsteps.
109. On that day no intercession shall avail, except the one for whom the Most Gracious (Allah) has given permission and whose word is acceptable to Him.
110. He (Allah) knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them (in the Hereafter) but they will never compass anything of His Knowledge.
111. And (all) faces shall be humbled before (Allah), (the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists). And he who carried (a burden of) wrongdoing (i.e. he who disbelieved in Allah, ascribed partners to Him, and did deeds of His disobedience), will be indeed a complete failure (on that Day).
112. And he who works deeds of righteousness, while he is a believer (in Islamic Monotheism), then he will have no fear of injustice, nor of any curtailment (of his reward).

There's no age. There's no haunting. I got a small glimpse. I don't think I reached the actual heaven area haha, just the welcoming committee. Their bodies were just outlines with a light shining thru. I didn't see anything but them and was just there like a few minutes. It's all feeling.
The feeling was like Christmas morning when you were 5 and new Santa thought you were good with lots of presents.
It was like the feeling you have when you realize someone you have a crush on, loves you back.
It's all those feelings times a thousand. So much joy and love you are bursting with it!

You should ask first where the notion of afterlife or immortality of the soul came from instead of accepting just because you grew up believing. It is believed to have been conceived by Plato and Socrates, however further evidence suggests as far back as ancient Persia and Egypt with Zoroastrianism. More evidence shows it's origin in Babylon. The Babylonians held Nimrod in high regard and believed him to be the god Marduk ( Merodach ) the deified Nimrod. The teaching of afterlife sits between after the Flood and Babylonian life. Being NO ONE has ever gone to the afterlife and returned to make a report, it is impossible to know if there is even one there at all. Many religions make statements that "their God" promises an afterlife, but there is no evidence there is anything after this life. The afterlife experiences people say they have when they are revived from brief death (they call it "near death") is simply a chemical reaction in the brain and has been duplicated many times, without killing someone.

Maybe it is a chemical reaction. But maybe it's not. You may be right, but you just might be wrong.

Here's what I think happen. Picture a scene, you're old, much older than now, 80, or 90. You're in a hospice bed, and you're family is surrounding you, as you die. You look up at the ceiling, and as you stare you begin to feel sleepy, more sleepy then ever before. You close your eyes and then you take a breath, and then you feel the sweet pull of sleep fall over you, and then nothing. That's how I imagine dying of old age will be like, of course, and many people won't die like that. I for one can almost guarantee I won't die like that. I realize this doesn't have much to do with your question, but I'm sure you can pick up on what I think about an "afterlife".

Edward48: Here is what the Bible says about the condition of the dead.
"For the living at least know that they will die! But the dead know nothing; they don't even have their memories;
Whatever they did in their lifetimes----loving, hating, envying---is long gone, and they have no part in anything here on earth anymore." (Ecclesiastes
9:5-6) Living Bible.

So what about the Soul?
"Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine; the soul that sinneth, it shall die." (Ezekiel 28:4) KingJames Bible. Check it out "The soul ["soul,"
RS,NE,KJ,DY,Kx; "Man," JB; "person"
TEV] that is sinning---it itself will die."
Edward48, check this out for yourself and see what answer you up come with.
Not going to tell you what I believe,
you come to your own conclusion.

My belief is Christian and my best answer is that once we get into the afterlife we can't feel pain anymore. If it helps think of being completely numb but without the weird feeling. I also once had a dream were I did die and went to the afterlife and met God, what that dream showed me is that yes we can meet others that have died, and humans things such as eating, drinking, using the washroom are things that you can or cannot do. The Christian view of ghosts is separated into two different categories being devils and angels, this also has to do with the hell/heaven thing. Devils come from hell so they can only feel anger and pain which is why they haunt/possess us and angels come from heaven so they only feel joy and mercy which is why they help us and guide us. This also has to do with good/bad luck. All devils and angels are people who have died and have chosen to go to earth. And for the brainwashing part, no, I do not believe that we are in a way brainwashed.

It's sad to think a lot of people believe THIS IS IT! This life here is not the end result. Yes we will have bodies. They will be perfect and young. Yes we eat. There will be beauty and love all around us and we will be busy! There will be no need to sleep because we won't tire. Yes we will be with our loved ones. However, there are certain criteria we have to meet in this life to become such. For as short as this life is it shouldn't be that hard.
