I said "Happy Father's Day" to my friend who lost her father to suicide. What do I do?

My best friend lost her father terribly to suicide a few years ago. She sent me a text saying "happy Father's Day to your dad", I said thank you and same to yours. she replied with what seemed to be annoyance of some kind and saying she can't talk to me for a few days. I was contemplating sending the message in the first place or not but figured it would be rude not to say the same , even if he had passed because that would be like ignoring the fact that he was once alive and loved. I don't know what to do, I replied playing dumb. I was just trying not to be rude but maybe I was

Perhaps it would be best if you just waited a few days like she said and then talk to her. Just explain matters as you have and maybe she will see it from your point of view. Apologize and make her understand that you were not trying to be rude of remind her of her pain.

You should talk to your friend in person and explain, not through a text message.

Well, remember that you don't always have to return compliments right away, you can just say thank you... Anyways, now you should apologize, in person.
