What should I expect?

Recently, a family member realized I was self harming and now I am being forced to see a doctor. Please no rude comments. I'm really scared because I don't know what to expect and I don't want to be sent away for anything and I am just really over thinking it. What should I expect? The appointment is also for depression.

The doctor will probably send you to a counselor. Just relax. I don't know how old you are. My daughter has been going through counseling for 2 years for cutting and anxiety. It's been a God- send because she loves her counselor; and she has stopped harming herself. I really doubt they're gonna send you away. The problem is more common than you think.

They might give you medicine or take you to a hospital that can help you with your illness

You can expect a lot of personal questions. Just remember, they are trying to help. It will be difficult, but you need to be completely honest. If not, they can't help you. In fact, dishonesty could lead to the wrong treatment and more problems. Good luck.

You should expect to be asked a bunch of questions. Be honest in answering them. If they think you are hiding something is when they think you will need "extra help". If you are honest and face what you need to face they will let you live our life as normally as possible.

I know you are scared but please try to see this as a good thing and a chance to improve your life. Good Luck!

you should expect to meet an expert who will try to figure out why you are feeling low and will help you. don't be scared. as a past self harmer, I know what you are going through. the point is that you must never think too much. our minds can be lethal at times. stay well and stay happy. :)

you ought to tell yourself that there is nothing fearful that will happen. I hope you can come to a point that your overriding emotion is happiness because you are going to get the help you want. I've dealt with bad depression for many years, finally I made the choice to find help and the darkness is receeding. I sincerely hope this is your experience as well. at least you are at the begining and you have no reason to expect anything other than improvement. I truly wish you every success.

I once stayed at a mental hospital, for other reason than cutting though. All they said about my cutting was that I needed to find a new method of dealing with emotional distress, they didn't ask any questions about it or anything, whoch is kinda weird though. Well, that's my experience. It will probably be different for you though.
