Can 9 year olds have jobs?

okay my cousin is 9 and she really wants to earn some money to get a doll so I was wondering can kids have jobs?

Report as

A real job? No. Maybe she could do a lemonade stand, sell some old stuff she doesn't use, or make jewelry and sell it.
Even though I don't believe in allowance because you should help your parents for free considering they pay for everything you have, she could do that if her parents are okay with it.

If your cousin lives in the US, I think no state allows 9 year-olds to have official jobs. However, non-official jobs are allowed as long as she receives the proper amount of school time throughout the year (and she won't be taxed!).
.
On the other hand, the laws behind this may depend on your cousin's state.

Well I think kids should actually have chores to do. Maybe she could earn money by chores.

Not an actual job like at a store, there are laws preventing that until someone reaches 16. She can do chores or help people around the house though maybe

A real job 13-14 depending on where ya live. Unless you grew up on a farm like me and I got paid when I was 9.

There are lots of kids in the entertainment business. And I mean the LEGAL kind. There are some jobs children can do but they are VERY restricted because children need to be protected from exploitation by adults. They shouldn't and can't legally be placed in any position/job that is dangerous, or that could interfere with their present or future health, safety or welfare. This is why they aren't typically on most US companies payroll.

I think a 9 year-old has a chance at having a job. They could easily get a job mowing grass, babysitting family members, walking dogs, delivering news papers for elderly people who can't go out and buy them themselves. There are a lot of jobs a 9 year-old could have. All you have to do is think about what their good at and what they are capable of doing,.
