If your criminal record was expunged, if you apply for a government job, can they still find it on a background check?

Report as

It depends on the state you're in and the state's law regarding expungement. I know for California that the charge shows up on background checks but has dismissal instead of conviction. Technically the government employer is suppose treat it as the conviction never happened except for cases like police and some other jobs.
