I was hit on my drivers side turning into my drive way
my car was in great condition
it still drives. insurance co wants to total it

I have no other car.please help I don't no what to do

just because they total it doesn't mean you can't still keep it. my old car was deemed "totaled" and only the front drivers side was crappy so I took the insurance $$ and just got it repaired....

well, everybody says Rhode Island is the most f'd up state, maybe my insurance company (progressive) didn't follow protocol? But I had a Neon, got hit and then my insurance company gave me 3200 (and some odd dollars) because it was based on KBB value, and I never had to turn in anything.

I have the understanding that once a car has been "totalled" .. it can never be registered again and would be deemed unfit. But .. of course, I could be wrong. THAT is something you would have to check out with your DMV.

If it is "totalled" you should get money from the insurance company to buy another car. When the 'total' it, that means the cost of the repairs have been estimated to be more than the car's current value. Negotiate to get them to pay you for the damages, instead of righting it off!

Then you will just have to settle for the cash buyout .. When they give you the money, you can invest that in another "new to you" car.

Taking the insurance money & financing a used car is apparently not an option?

I'll try again:
Take the cash money given to you by the insurance company. Put it in your bank. Do not spend it on other $#!t. Go to the car dealer in your hometown that has the best reputation. Finance a "new" used car. Use that money you got from the insurance company as your down payment.
