If my husband dies and his SS benefit is more than mine, will I be able to collect any of his as his widow?

I am already collecting my own SS but my spouse's is almost twice the amount mine is.

You are entitled to receive your spouse's SS benefits as his widow. This is because it is under the Social Security Survivors Benefits and as long as he had mentioned you as his wife, you are entitled to some amount of his SS. Read http://www.socialsecurity.gov/survivorplan/index.htm.

You can apply for survivors benefits, but his social security stops when he dies. You should contact the social security office for more information.

well there's a prenup and parents benifits usually he has to sign off a letter saying what you get and then you'll have to get confirmation from the divorce office

Yes, you can! Call your local SS office and they'll explain it all to you

I believe you can collect whichever is higher. Call the office or go get the pamphlets on the issue.
