Can someone tell me about Portland,Oregon?

So my family is thinking of moving. my mom brought up Portland I want to know more about the place I might possibly be living in the next couple of months

My Grandpa lived their. As a truck driver I went through and visited many times. Rain, but they also have some really nice weather and people are kind. At least the ones I meet. Mountains, green, snow, rain, and a new experience.

Portland, Oregon, newspaper, online: http://www.oregonlive.com/oregonian/

One of the best ways to learn about a town is to read their newspaper. You can check real estate prices, weather, how much crime, etc.

I've been there a number of times. The whole city seems to share a mindset of environmental responsibility. You can't even pump your own gas. It's very clean and artsy. It really kind of depends what you're looking for but I've always been well fed, entertained, and felt safe traveling in that area.

the part about the rain is true. however we have some really beautiful weather as well. we just don't like to talk about it. that way fewer people will move here. from portland you can be at the ocean,in high desert,on a permanently snowcapped mountain,or in a warm fertile valley in just an hour or so. portland has a small portion of the things you'd go to any big city for. but it still retains the friendliness of a big spread out small town. I know that seems contradictory but I know of no other way to describe it. it is very clean and friendly. I won't deny there is an adjustment period, but once you get through it portland quickly becomes home. I love it here.
