Greed. it is greed that have ruined lives and started wars. that have destroyed forests simply for profit. that have not cared for the health of others. weither it is land, wealth or power, greed is the true source of evil
Us. Its not that we cause it we do it. The wage of sin is death. Death is seperation from God. If you are referencing to Bible God says flesh. Flesh and spirit are contrary to each other so that you may know what's right. People who believe still commit sins. People also know the difference. I asked this homeless guy, was he okay, has he satan today. Came back and feed him. Without me saying anything he asked what church did I go to. People know when someone is different. If you see no difference in the world and its views in a person, they don't have Jesus. There is big difference between religion and salvation. We do evil. We as in humans.

Most evil is subjective, what is evil to one may be good to another. Examples include the inquisitions during the early renascence, and modern day terrorist attacks. The causes for this type of "common" evil are many, politics, religion, greed, culture, etc. Objective evil is fortunately rare and is what every human understands as evil. Killing children, vicious homicide, a passion for inflicting pain, ie torture, on others (humans or any other animal for that matter) etc. The cause for this is almost always psychological abnormality.
Religion and man. Without religion you will see good people doing good, and bad people doing evil. But for good people to do evil, it takes religion.
Religion has been the unmitigating evil, a perpetual mendicant, a charitable hitchhiker, the unending source of hatred and arrogant intolerance. With the false premise that there is a god, and that man's only purpose in life is to destroy some center of evil, there is no crime that religion did not commit, there is no virtue that religion did not punish and there is no vice that religion did not promote.
Religion gave mankind a few Angels and a multitude of devils; it made a thousands orphan when it pretended to care for one; in one hand it carried an almdish and a dagger in the other. Religion furrowed the cheeks of innocents and blighted the souls of good with its hell, but it had no effect upon the vile and the evil. With fagots and falsehoods religion paralyzed the minds of man and inspired them for evil.
Evil is subjective and changes from person to person. Sure a large majority will believe one deed is evil, but a minority might disagree. Evil has no root, source, etc. It is what society has deemed as unacceptable conduct. In reality good and evil do not exist, which means evil has no cause.

Greed, lust, jealousy, hatred, insanity, religion. There may be more, I just can't think of them all (if there are any). I'm not saying their "evil", I'm just saying that these traits is what CAUSES "evil".
"For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against persons without bodies---the evil rulers of the unseen world, those mighty satanic beings and great evil princes of darkness who rule this world; and against huge numbers of wicked spirits in the spirit world." (Ephesians 6:12) Living Bible. That is the answer from the the Bible.
Satan and the inclination of the human heart do contribute to evil. The causes of evil that exist today is Satan no longer has access to the heavens. He and the angels that followed him in his rebellion against Jehovah were thrown down to the earth. The Bible states at Revelation12:12,"Woe for the earth and the sea because the Devil has come down to you having great anger, knowing he has a short period of time." Soon Satan and his angels will be destroyed. Satan knows that there is no hope for him; therefore he does all he can to blind humans of their hope of living. Because of Jesus sacrifice, we have the hope of everlasting life. Do not let Satan rob you of your hope. John 17:3 reads,"This means everlasting their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ." Through a personal study of the Bible, you will learn what God requires of you and have many more of you questioins answered.
Bible principle James 1:14,15 "But each one is tried by being drawn out and enticed by his own desire. 15?Then the desire, when it has become fertile, gives birth to sin; in turn, sin, when it has been accomplished, brings forth death" The outcome/result of evil is dependable on ones choice. A once perfect angel, based on the bible principle mentioned, made himself satan the devil due to bad choice. The bible has the answer to the end of evil. jw.org
