What is the difference between a locked cell phone and a unlocked cell phone?

Report as

The difference between a locked and an unlocked cell phone is that the former can only use one network. This means that even if you buy a SIM card from another network and pit it in, it won't work. An unlocked cell phone works with just about all networks.

A locked cell phone needs activation in order for it to be used, either being flashed or activated using the "Sim Card". And well there's two types of unlocked... There is "Factory Unlocked" or "Unlocked ( normal ). Factory unlocked is when you pay a company or get it unlocked... You can restore it as many times as you want and won't have I go to the activation screen... While the unlocked ( normal ) I when you activate your phone using AT&T or other and when you restore it, it goes AGAIN to the activation screen... So basically factory unlocked is unlocked forever and unlocked ( original ) Is only when being restored...
